LP and the common Rail Injector Pumps
I recently had the OEM cummins lift pump go out, had the truck towed into a dodge dealer, they retrofitted the OEM with an intank LP, I paid them and I was on my way. A month later I experienced very poor performance and fuel mileage so I decided to install a FASS system with a Vulcan draw straw. When I dropped the tank I found no LP in the tank. Anyone else have any experiences running a common rail injector pump without a lift pump for an extended period of time? I am experiencing increased injector noise but the machines at Dodge do not indicate a problem and cummins can't give me any advice either. I am going to have to take the dealership that didn't do the work to court and I need some ammunition. I would like to see a refund and have them pay to replace the injector pump and injectors.
Thanks,
Jimmy

welcome to dtr jimmy, man i would be quite mad. the d-maxes use a version of the cp3(your injection pump) without a L/p, so there shouldnt be too much to worry about. would you really want the same clowns changing injectors and inj pump after your previous experiences with them?
increased injector noise can be caused by dirty fuel, not using the truck hard enough, too much idleing, etc. are you using any fuel additives? they seem to keep the noises at bay.
as far as ammo, maybe take pictures of the lack of l/p on your truck(are you certain they just didnt put on back on the fuel filter assembly?) maybe they are just stupid and put the wrong one back on?

So the dealer removed your lp and just omited installing a lp all together, but they told you they put in a intank lp and the invoice says they installed a intank lp.
What the ****!
Hate to go in there with a flat tire . They would send you down the road with just 3 wheels .

Yep, They removed the Cummins lift pump that mounts on the back of the stock fuel filter, installed a retrofit kit which is composed of a flexable fuel line that attaches to the back of the Filter housing and attaches to the stock fuel line with a quick disconnect and the wiring harness to merge into the existing wiring. I am VERY ANGRY as the increased injector noise has started since the installation of the "INVISABLE" Lift Pump.
Their argument is that the truck won't run without a lift pump. I use addatives about ever 3rd Tank of fuel to help keep things clean. I still don't have the power and juel mileage I would have expected after installing the FASS system.

FYI, the dealership I had it towed to is in Arkansas and I usually use one in Fort Worth, Texas. I have full confidence in the mechanics I use locally. I thought I could trust the ones in any Chrysler dealership. I have found out that I am wrong.

Increased injector noise often is not coming from the injectors at all.....I know of a few CP3 pumps that have developed an audible ticking sound at idle and low rpm. I have been told that there is no problem with them but the only way to make the sound go away is to change the pump. In every instance, DC claims there is no problem with the pump. I have seen two 3rd gen owners go through this problem.
If you post in the 3rd gen forums, you will get a lot more feedback about the issues with the "noisy" CP3's and maybe even some resolutions....
