Angry Low MPG

Maybe I am expecting too much, but I am seeing 11's around town and 15 on the highway (not towing). I was expecting more out of this engine. I have an Auto (not desired, but living with it) 4X4 QC 2500 LWB SRW.

Does anyone have suggestions on modifications I should make to boost some MPG? The truck is stock and I was considering a chip, if it will help. I don't really need more power, just better economy (with fuel prices llike they are).

I get 11.8- 13 in town
And my 2500 mi run last week (empty) was 17.52-17.87

I saw very little if any mpg improvement with Juice/ afe

How many miles on your truck
Are you doing any towing/hard driving to help break it all in correctly.

Oh and fill out your sig. line so others can see what you have when they try to help

And I allmost forgot

Welcome to the board

What are you considering city vs highway too. If you can, do some towing with it if you are past the 'no towing' point. A lot depends on how you drive though.

I have 27.5K miles on it, have done some long hauls (2500 miles RT), and a lot more short run driving (30 minutes or less). I tow a 6500 lb. trailer and tractor around infrequently. The truck is usually empty.

Highway is cruising 75-80 mph into the city, clear flying as not too much traffic around here. City / around town is 30-45 mph stop and start.

eedwin- Welcome to the site
I noticed if I drove 65 to 70 and kept the rpm's under 2200 I got better fuel mileage, worth a try.

I am sorry to say your mpg is worse than mine was. Try additive if you dont already. I use Power Service Kleen and Marvel Mystery Oil mix in every tank. (3 parts PS to 1 part MMO), 16oz in every tank. Can not prove it, but it believe it helped my mpg 1-1.5. Truck seems to run smoother and quiter. I am at 26,000 miles and I do not tow. I do mostly city stop, stop, stop and go driving during the week and weekend highway at 75-80mph trips. I average 14mpg city and 17.5mpg highway. Drag strip miles dont seem to have any effect.

I am getting ~17mpg right now, with mostly 55-65mph, a lot of stopping at lights though. I had stock 245s until last week, and 4.10s. I have 315s now, so hopefully the slightly lower RPMs will help. I also got the Eliminator but need to have another sent to me. Other thing, my truck only has 5K on the ticker, so the engine isn't even close to broken in yet.

maybe I am stupid but I just installed the quad tow box and on the first tank full I noticed a 2-3mpg gain over the stock setup..... Read carefully FIRST TANK......... I will see what it gets from here on out. But when I drive I tow and not lightly either. I average 9-11mpg normally and found after installing the box I saw 13mpg. I did take it out for a rip to see what it was like with no trailer and saw the same kind of numbers from the overhead. Usually I get about 14-15 on the freeway doing 65-70mph and with it installed I got a solid 19mpg from the overhead from when I left the house to when I got home and that included one power-slide onto the on ramp. I am very excited to see what the overall improvement will be but so far I love it!!!!

just got back from Bloomsburg PA trip, 387 miles round trip, 26.6 gallons fuel. close to 14.5 mpg hand calculated. Now I can honestly say I kept the EZ on the lowest setting, lots of open road on the way out tried to keep it under 80 mph most of the time. Way back however got stuck in a nasty traffic jam that added 2 hours of idle and creep ahead and stand still to get to open road and back to 80 mph. I would have like to see what the numbers would have been without the jam but maybe next time I'll get lucky and miss that mess. If I would have gotten 1 mpg less I would have had to stop for fuel and that doesn't make me real happy either, I should be able to run well over 400 miles before I get nervous and start watchin the gauge.
