LOUD squeal on shutdowns
Its teh drive belt the motor shuts off faster than the belts and when the motor comes to a hault the belt sqeels over the pulleys that are driving them since they have stoped. Mine has only done it once but there has been many posts about it and haveing belts shred or start to fray. The fix from what i heard is have the dealer install a new belt tentioner. Correct me if im wrong anybody

Most of them do that. It's nothing to worry about, but if it bothers you, replace the serpintine belt with a "gaterback"
Mine use to do it all the time, but got better with milage. Still does it once and a while.

It's actually my friends new one. 3 of us that bought at the same time .Belt squeal is LOUD! on my friends , Mine does it only a little chirp. but at least it's what i told him it was. While i'm on these subjects - do the Shortbeds have the same shuttering problem as his longbed did . fixed with a shim. DAVE
Mine does it almost every time I shut down. It is normal. It is just due to the high compression diesel engine shutting off suddenly and the water pump, a/c, power steering, etc. etc. continuing their motion for a 1/4 second or so. It is just a normal part of owning a diesel, like waiting for the grid heater light to go off to start it.
My belt looks great at 24,000 miles.

I just replaced my belt last weekend as it was starting to come apart. I noticed it squeeling while I was driving it so I pulled over to check it out. The front of the belt (fan side) was missing about 1/4". So saturday I went to napa and picked up a new one $37.00 later and a few scraped knuckles it was done. Now it screeches to a hault very loudly.. On a second note if you do replace your belt the napa ones come with a 100% lifetime warranty. If there is anything left of the numbers when it goes they will give you a new one for free!!!!
Mine did it from dayone it is the Turbo wastegate I removed my fan belt and it still did it my sand rail does the same thing when I left my foot off the gas nothing to worry about just enjoy it 04 1/2 4x4 short bed 3500
If the dealer left all the tags hanging in the truck when you got it there was one hanging from the cigarette lighter that even has that explanation on it. Nothing but the engine stopping faster than the belt. High compression will do that.

FWIW, my replacement belt has about 10,000 miles on it now. It has recently begun chirping loudly again at shutdown, which is what the original one did before it shredded. The replacement rarely chirped, but as I said, has gotten loud lately.
So far, it looks OK, but I don't trust it. Shouldn't have to worry about this kind of reliability on a new, modern vehicle.
i have noticed many trucks that make this noise when being shut down, i saw a truck with less miles on it then mine that made this noise. My truck has never made that noise. Nothing to worry about, but something that i thought was interesting.
Mine chirps on shutdown. 46000 miles and still going good, no regrets, no worries. Wanna buy my belt?
I second the motion about buying from NAPA. Never cheap out on belts or hoses.
