Losing prime overnight
Losing prime overnight
My truck just started like 2 weeks ago with 82k miles. I don't think the lift pump is gone cause I have no loss of power or no problem. The only problem I have is that the lift pump runs for 20 seconds on every start up. I have noticed that the power steering hoses and the frame where the brake likes come together on the drivers side is wet, but the hoses on the canister aren't wet! I have smelled it and it doesn't smell like diesel but there is a loss of prime and I think it has to be fuel. The brake fluid is always full and the clutch resovoir is full so I can only think of it as fuel. Maybe there is a crack in a hose?? I don't know and I am at a loss of what to do. Anybody have any ideas. God Bless Aaron

its possible that your injectors are letting fuel go by or the bypass valve on the cp3 could be going out letting fuel by and not letting the lines build to pressure. your under warranty it should only cost you a 100 to have the dealer fix it if its the injectors they are only about 500 apeice if your out of warranty so it might be worth haveing the dealer look at it just my .02
If its the FUEL system/injectors etc.for the FIRST 5 years of the 100k 7 year FUEL SYSTEM CUMMINS warranty NO DEDUCTABLE.Its a DIFFERANT warranty then POWERTRAIN thats has a $100 deductable.
Awesome on the warranty. It just seems when you take your truck in you have a new problem afterward. That's why I do most stuff my self. Injectors or fuel system stuff just aint my thing. Thanks guys Aaron
i had a problem like this once.....it turned out to be a leaky fuel filter canister, mine was letting air in through the screw on cap and it turned out the canister was warped, but you also may have a tiny leak from your water drain valve thats allowing it to leak to make things wet and make the system refill on a restart...if there is any air in there at all it takes several seconds to compress it to a high enough pressure to shut off the lift pump
Awesome I will check that out as well and see what's going on. Thanks for the help and you know it kinda started shortly after replacing the fuel filter. Have a blessed day. Aaron
UPDATE:
One of the hoses on the back of the lift pump didn't have a clip on it and was hanging halfway down the nipple letting plenty of air in I am sure. I put a clamp on it and sealed it tight I hope. Now I know that there is plenty of air in the system! Oh yea and the lift pump still runs for 20 seconds but I just started on turned off twice today. So I will give it a few days maybe. On my 01 I let air out through the schrader valve on VP44 and then opened the 4th injector or whatever. Well, now I got and 03 and CP3, which I don't know much about. Do you guys think I can just let the air escape into the chambers or should I purge the system somehow?? Thanks for any insight.
