Looking for Preferred Transmission Upgrade...

Here is where I am at...my 48RE currently has approx. 95K on it. Up until now there has been no signs of slippage. Fluid level is where it should be, the color is red, and there are no signs or smells of burning clutches. I guess I am looking for some veteran advice, simple searches only yield personal preferences and problems so I am trying to see where I might be. I was planning on changing out the tranny fluid at 100K and have the AMSOIL fluid sitting here ready to go, but I don't want to waste it.
Will doing a fluid change and adjusting the bands possibly stop the slipping?
If the above is only a band aide I realize I am looking at a full tranny upgrade...at the price tag of $3,000 - $7,000 depending on the company and choice of upgrades. What I am trying to determine is what company as the best reputation for great customer service and reliability for their product. Before purchasing my truck I had spoke to the folks at ATS and they seemed superb, but I see a lot of other transmission company's in users sigs.

So what is the general consensus with regards to picking the a quality transmission upgrade for my truck?

Thanks for taking the time to read and if you responded...thanks again.

I would have my trans. flushed and re-filled with your Amsoil by a repair shop. That way you get most of your old fluid out. Make sure to have them change the filter also. As far as upgrades, I have a deep pan and FS 2500 bypass filter on my 48re; hoping for longevity.

with the tranny slipping its not going to make much of a difference in just changing the fluid and filter. adjusting the bands might buy you a couple thousand more miles but more than likely the bands are worn.
for an upgrade i would suggest just a rebuild of the tranny with an upgraded Torque Converter (single or triple disc) and an upgraded valve body.
i would suggest going with HTS tranny if you are wanting to just do a direct replacement tranny.
i would call and talk to dusty at HTS and explain what you do with your truck and what you are planning and he will advise you on the direction to take. he won't try to sell you something you don't need

Sorry, I missed that your tranny WAS slipping. A lot of people on this site say good things about Goerend Bros. trannies.

If customer service is going to decide what manufacturer you will be going with, I have dealt with ATS numerous times on some peoples rigs I have worked on and they blow. I have also heard of great things about Dusty from HTS, the crew at Georend bros., and the guys at Suncoast. Talk to them all numerous times, and try to talk to the same person every time. I usually end up going with the one who remembers who I am, and is not afraid to give out any kind of information I ask for. See what people have to say about each manufacturer before you purchase. Customer service is #1 in my book. If they dont have the support to back their products, their products obviously arent worth supporting.

i have to agree with K and i have to say dusty is the owner of the company and he will gladly talk to you on the phone anytime you have a problem. i have even heard of him talking people out of buying a valvebody from him cause all they really needed was a stock part to get the tranny shifting right again.

Awesome info guys...I couldn't remember some of the other tranny guys info...many thanks.
I will begin looking into the HTS and Georend bros. transmissions and make comparisons from there. If there is any other info on comparisons between the HTS, ATS, Georend, etc. trannies...please let me know.

Thanks,
Jim

I'm in PA...east coast. I seriously will entertain any company as long as I don't have to worry about having to pull the tranny ever again

I don't think you will need a full tranny upgrade. I would change out the T/C and V/B replace the bands and thrust washer. I just had a full tranny rebuild @ 75,000 miles of heavy towing. The only wear shown was in the bands, washer and a slipping T/C. My seals were in great condition, shafts were checked for stress and clutches looked brand new. 3rd gear is hell on the trust washer.

That is an idea...I just don't want to try just replacing the T/C and VB and other misc piecs only to find that they are only a band aide for another 10K or so...I want this to be a once and done ordeal. The tranny is huge and not something I want to be accustom to removing

Thanks for giving me another option though because the 5-6K price tag is a bit scary
