Question Long term problems caused by Vibration

What are the long term problems that will come from not getting the vibration problem resolved? If you try to get the dealer to fix it and haven’t been successful. Will the truck eat U-Joints?

My '03 had the driveline vibration since new. At 44k miles the rear end started sounding worn and grumbly. Don't know if it was typical AAM, the 75W-90 gear lube, or the vibration. Vibrations will cause premature wear on the rear end and tranny. How soon is speculation on my part.

Sorry you're having problems I'm just trying to help.

I've had 4x4's for over 20 yrs.

I do not have the vibration problem in my 05.

It seems to me that if the front end is not engaged, and your transfer case is not engaged in 4x4 mode then your front driveline should not be rotating at the same speed as the rear drive line while driving down the road. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If it was in the front drive line then engaging 4x4 mode should make vibration worse.

Suggestion 1: Get all 4 off the ground and run in 2wheel drive, then 4x4. Check for vibration difference and frontend disengagement. You may have to put it in reverse to get the front to disengage fully.

Suggestion 2: Check wheels for true. Warped wheels however minor will give you this type of problem also. Mags and alloys seem especially prone to this.

Suggestion 3: Check rotor to wheel mounting surface for excessive rust 1/32" on rotor or wheel = 1/8" at the outside dia of the wheel .

Hope this helps even one of you.
