Locking Hub Conversion Q

I need to replace my front wheel bearings so I’ve been thinking about locking hubs.

I know there are lots of free spin kits out there but I don’t want to spend $2k. Has anyone come up with a recipe for the conversion using existing truck parts? I know the 2nd gen D60’s can be converted using Ford TTB D50 parts.

IIRC, somebody in the aftermarket started using 99-04 Ford unit bearings and stubs for this. The spacing is supposed to be more favourable. The Ford unit can be greased better. Obviously, the bolt pattern gets redrilled.
