I thought Dodge designed the fuel system for the Rams and Cummins just supplied the engines.

I was looking around on a school bus forum and it appears the system is the same on the busses too. There was talk of a recall there too.

That is the problem, as I understand it. Dodge wanted a "drop in" power plant to include all fuel related pumps and systems. That is why the LP is located on the engine and not in the fuel tank like the new trucks. Having the LP "pull" the fuel (rather than push it) is not how it was designed. Also, it is alledged vibration is an additional cause of premature failure of the LP.

So if that is the case why would this supposed recall effect all users of Cummins engines, inlcuding Buses and medium duty trucks?

If a recall was issued because of failing LPs, then it would not have any bearing on other vehicles with the Cummins engine. Unless they all copied Dodge's design...

If this winds up being true, will it matter how many miles are on the pump/vehicle??? My '99 that Dad drives now still has the original pump and has over 150k on her. Haven't had any problems at all with it. Go figure??!!!

If a recall is initiated by Cummins, it don't think it will affect the Dodge CTDs. Cummins, I thought, sells the engines to Dodge without a warranty.

Why would Cummins initiate a recall on a fuel system they had no part in designing?

The fuel system is indeed a Bosch system, therefore if a recall was issued it would be more so by Bosch, which would then mean that the DC dealers would be the authorized repair facility for our Dodges. Don't forget Bosch systems are used on many applications that are HPCR.

That is what I was looking for. If the recall were to go in effect for more than just Dodge Rams (like buses, as previously stated), the recall would have to be issued by Bosch.

I have not heard the name Bosch anywhere in all this, therefore it makes me believe there is no recall at all. Things just dont add up.

I have been to other web sites and this site is the only one that reports anything about a recall. Maybe we just know more than others, or maybe this is just rumor.

I am 99% sure there will be no recall. That of course is just my opinion

I'm 99% sure that the 03 and 04 ' s will be recalled with a new tank and pump , but a little hesitant on the 98.5 to 02's.

Yes it just reads fuel level but is part/housed with the pump. The point was on stalling its a saftey issue. That why there was a recall. They stalled in intersections and on the freeway etc.due running out of fuel.
