Less Power, and Exhaust Gasping Sound

Hey Guys,

My truck started making a weird "gasping" sound through the exhaust, and I noticed a loss of power at RPMs < 2000 at the same time this started. Luckily, I have an old video of my exhaust sound for you to be able to compare the problem sound to.

This '04 has 5 inch straight pipe, but does have a resonator on it. I need to get this back on the road as soon as possible, please let me know what you think.

Thanks!!

I did notice something the past few weeks that I just thought of. The truck occasionally
hasn't idled down properly when I stop. It may hang around 1000-1100 RPM for several seconds before returning to idle. When it does this, I'm absolutely certain it isn't the high idle feature engaging.

Anybody have any ideas where to start on this?

Thanks!

I had a similar problem in the past and it was a faulty O2 sensor causing the problem. Replaced it and fixed the problem. Did you get a check engine light? The code should tell you if that's the case.

I took it to a diesel repair shop. They tested the injectors. All of them were borderline, with some barely failing, and the rest barely passing. This wasn't the cause of the symptom though. They tested compression and found it was low on #5 and #6. After pulling the head, they found that the head gasket was blown between those two cylinders.
