Is this the last year for Cummins in Dodges?
Is this the last year for Cummins in Dodges?
My buddy said he heard a rumor that dodge isn't putting cummins in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks anymore is this true? surely not! if so, who will be the replacement?
Really? No -- IF it's a rumor, it's very bad and quite odd. The 2011's are arriving with 6.7 liter cummins as we speak. They just renewed their agreement at least through 2014:
"Chrysler Group and Indiana-based Cummins announced a “multi-year” extension of their current contract, which calls for Cummins to supply 6.7-liter turbo diesel engines for Dodge Ram pickups and chassis cabs.
While it appears that Cummins might not be supplying smaller diesels for Jeeps and lighter duty Dodge trucks, as originally planned, their engines are not being replaced by Iveco powerplants, either.
The Five Year Plan showed the engines remaining at roughly the same percentage of production through 2014."
Chrysler / Dodge NEEDS Cummins.

Will be the end of the RAM brand if true. I haven't heard a thing about it my self. FIAT i don't think has anything that can replace it, unless one of their partners do. I wouldn't think cummins would have put so much into the new motor for a 4 year deal, but the govt is running the show so anything is possible.
Yeah, I think Dodge asked Cummins to stop research on their 1/2 ton diesels but they are still going strong on the 6.7L. I think that's because Fiat has their own smaller diesel already in production.... Going down to order my '11 today or Monday....

Thats what I heard.. Since Ford owns them, I heard they were gonna put them in the 2012 Fords since the new in house 6.7 is non emissions compliant for that year.
Ford does not own Cummins! If they did, the new Super Duties would be running a 6.7 Cummins not the Ford developed engine. Ford at one time owned some shares in Cummins as did Chrysler but not any more. The Ram will use Cummins engines through the 2014 model year and beyond is optional. This info has been available on both the Ram and Cummins sites for some time.
Maybe these rumors are started by the Maxipad croud??!!

When we were at the Honda dealer this week looking at CR-V's for the wife, the salesman (who drives a ford 1/2 ton) asked how I liked the Dodge. Said it was awesome, then he proceeded to "edumacate" me on how Ford owns Cummins and that Ford sold all their shares once they realized Dodge signed a 10 year deal (this spring no less) to put the Cummins in the Ram. I let him continue until I knew we were not going to make a deal and said he needs to get his facts straight and don't try to BS and BS'er...

Sure does

Okay, I better stop now before an Ad-meany gets me.
To answer your question, no Cummins isn't going anywhere.
Its not Cummins, it's Cummings.
Sure does
Hoss bought Cummings when he sold the concrete bedliner company. He then sold it to Ford for an undisclosed amount of money.
