Just how hot (coolant) is too hot?

Pulling my 5er back up the hill today I was running 210-220 on the factory engine temp gauge. 11,000ish pounds up around 4% for 10 miles.

Is this normal? (ambient air temp was around 90).

Just curious.

I pull 12K# in the toy hauler and the guage hits that pretty routinely especially when the rpms go up and it kicks down a gear.

In 105F weather (here lately, getting hotter), it's nothing for me to run 200-210 empty, just getting on the freeway! But that's with a 'real' water temp gauge.

I don't think 210-220 on a 4% grade is unreasonable when eye-balling on a factory gauge. May be a little high on a 'real' gauge.
