jump starting and check engine light
Greetings all,
I searched this forum and a couple of others that may have contained this information, but didn't see it...
So after my truck sat unplugged in 35-45 C for 5 days, I attempted to start it. As expected it rolled, but wouldn't fire and I wore the batts down until they were almost gone (I may be dumb, but I'm stubborn). I finally found a longer extension cord and poached some juice from an adjacent parking stall at the airport (yes, I plugged him back in when I was done
). After warming things up for about 3 hours, I bummed a jump from a passerby and it fired right up. The check engine idiot light came on and stayed on after it started and it hasn't gone out. Everything seems to function just fine, including the Edge Juice. Got oil, , got fuel, got volts, got lights, runs fine, or as fine as it's going to in these temps.
Has anyone else experienced this? I saw the cam sensor thread, but I don't have any of those symptoms, in fact I have no symptoms after about 300 miles. I think I'm going to try and disconnect the battery and see if a hard boot will reset it.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much,
Ben
By the by, If any of you Amsoil-running, northern folk haven't tried the Amsoil 5W-30 Series 3000, it's good medicine for loooow temps. I don't think my truck would have even rolled over with 15W-40. I'm anxious to see what the analysis will look like after 5000 miles.

Laramie not Lariat (thats Ford).
As for the other issue when the batteries go dead codes are set and the CEL comes on, at least thats what happened to a buddy of mine when he let his slide in camper drain them completely. I believe it will go away with time. I'm sure others will chime in with more specific information.

Talk about brain fade... I haven't owned a Ford since 2000... wonder where that came from...
Anyway, thanks very much for straightening me out and for the info. I'm going to check it out tonight. It's been sitting in a heated garage and maybe that will help... somehow.
Thanks again.

I'm thinking that the Edge Juice will let you clear codes, but not identify them. I'll have to check it this evening.
The light did clear this morning when I started it and it ran just fine... It may have been a combination of extreme cold and some nearly dead batteries that just needed some warmth and charging.
