Re:Jacobs Question

The latest build trucks shut off the ebrake at 185 when idling. Earlier production shuts them off at 215 I believe. Most trucks never see that temp at idle so never shut off the ebrake. I believe it is a software issue with the ECM. Not sure if the CO2 reflash will do anything about that. Doesn't bother me one way of the other.

Casey

Re:Jacobs Question

Mine will work when I kick off the cruise.

I was not aware of it shutting off if the temp gets to 185. I was unhooking the fiver after backing into a rather tight and circuitous space on soft dirt. I had been running on the interstate so I know I was running good and warm. I wondered why the exhaust sounded so funny. I had forgetten to kick the ebrake off when coming down off the Interstate. I had never thought about what it sounded like when on. It was definitely functioning even though well up on operating temp.

Re:Jacobs Question

Yea mine doesn't shut off at temp either, unless the temp setting is to high like mensioned earlier. But mine will deffinately come on even when the cruise is engaged (which I like) it is not very offten, has to be a pretty steep long hill, but it does kick in.

Re:Jacobs Question

Mine works with the cruise on, disables when idling at normal operating temp (after a few seconds at a stop), and the off/on switch allows it to be turned off when desired. It functions flawlessly, and I'm a happy camper. ;D ;D

Re:Jacobs Question

Mine has never shut off while at idle. No matter what the conditions, so far.
Randy

Re:Jacobs Question

Randy,
When was yours built? It appears as though they may have made some ECM programming changes along the way... :

Re:Jacobs Question

I am not sure when it was built. It was installed around the first of January.
It does everything mentioned but has never disabled at idle. I guess mine has the 215 deg shutoff program.

Re:Jacobs Question

In the Jacobs Installation Manual on page 17It says The brake will funtion when the cruise is set and the Brake is turned on ( when coasting and gaining speed the cruise control will turn the brake on and off to maintain the set speed. It also says that when using the brake as a warm up device that the brake will be turned of by the ECM when jacket water temp reaches 170-175 degrees F. I do not know when my brake was built but it was on order since the became available and I recieved it on Feb 17 and installed it myself on Feb 18. I have noticed that if you have a engine that is warmed up the brake has to be on an an Idle for about the same amount of time as it takes to reach the Hi Idle for the brake to release.
Jim O
