Angry Jacobs Brake Issues

Allright Boys!!!!

As I left the base today I stopped by the Class 8 (Liquor) store and heard what sound like rattle inside the cab while the truck was cooling down. I listend in the cab, and couldn't quite pin it down, so I opened the drivers door, and the rattle/popping sound became evident as being from under the hood. I thought this can' be good . I opened the hood and realized right away the it was coming from the vacuum pump the powers my Jacobs Brake. I got the truck home, got out the engine stethescope, and sure enough the Vacuum pump is rattling something fierce. The truck only has 39k for mileage so I am even less impressed. Has anyone lese had this issue?
I experienced the joy of removing the 126" serpentine belt and am getting a shorter belt for a non-Jacobs equipped unit in the morning to install. I will be up in Mechanicsburg, Pa for several days next week, and the dealer there will be looking at it. he feels it will be warranty, and it better be. I am hauling my two john Deere Tractors to Ohio around the 31st of May and i want my jacobs back on line for the mountains of PA. Any input is appreciated.

Eric

Good luck, I hope you get it taken care of. I had a problem with a stalk switch after about 15,000 miles on the unit. DC told me that Mopar parts have a 12 month and 12,000 mile warranty and this trumped the warrenty info that came with the unit.

Please post your outcome with this, I would interested in follwoing up on my end if I was treated differently than you.

Good luck

The vacuum pump is expensive. Thats one reason I went with the Pacbrake. If you have to pay for the repair yourself consider the Pacbrake retrofit kit. Who know's, it may save you money.

Pauly, the Jake runs off vacuum and the Pac runs off compression right? So is that what the retrofit is for?

You are correct, the Jacobs is vacuum activated and the PRXB is air activated. I thought Pacbrake offered a kit that converted the vacuum operated brake to a air operated system but I don't see anything on their site. Maybe I dreamed it up!

I Think I'm having a vacuum pump issue as well.
I don't have a rattle but I do have a constant hiss, it acts as if it can't hold the pressuse of the exchaust even though my torque converter stays locked.

I'm planning to use an electric vacume pump off a Ford Super Doody to replace the Jacobs when it bites it.

Should be cheap and easy to get at a salvge yard.
