My 06 has the rough idle at times and I tow a 16K 5th wheel every weekend. It comes and goes for no real reason. After I started putting Lucas Fuel system cleaner/lub in and the rough idle stopped. I filled the tank last week without the lube and the rough idle showed up a couple of days later. But it I put the lube back in, it goes away. I just hoping that I'm not losing a injector. I've got 23000 miles on mine right now. Anthony

Any updates about this problem? My truck is going back to the dealer next week for the same problem again (3rd time).

I'm going to try a new dealership in Leesburg next Thursday. I'm preparing myself now for a lot of hot air up my you know what. That way I won't be as angry when it actually happens.
On a different note I lubed my front drive shaft a couple of days ago and found an oil leak b/w the tranny and the motor oil pan!! Again preparing myself for hot air injection.
Sorry to be so negative but I'm really having a hard time with dealerships giving me the run around lately.

I've been dealing with the same thing for months now Its gotten worse then it was, now it does it non-stop.When I take it to the dealer 4-times now they can't find anything wrong with it (big surprise). The RPM drops to 0 then jumps back to just under a 1000.I've pulled and cleaned every wire I can get ahold of and changed many sensors with no affect.I've tried all the additives that have been suggested on this site.I'm at a loss! To date I've spent around $4,000 trying to get this fixed.

Well I got my truck back today. Since it is a long story, you can read all about it here:

I have a 2006 that was doing the same thing. This truck only got worse in time and had 2 dead cylinders when we figured out what it was. On my 06 it was the A side injector plug not making good contact with the pins. I fixed this by taking a dental pick and pulling the tabs closer in the female side of the plug.

Find a Cummins dealer and buy your valve cover gasket that has all your injector wiring in it. Cummins sells engine parts allot cheaper than Dodge does. Dodge wanted 159 for that and Cummins wanted 110. I still haven't replaced my gasket yet because it runs fine now that I tighten the plug up so it contacts better.

I hope you have a good bit of farming around you. Reason being a dealership will sell more CT trucks in those places so they work on more as well and you have better luck in finding a good diesel mechanic. My problem might not be your problem but at least you know something else to look at. Those 2 plugs need to have dielectric grease in them as well. Hope this helps.

The plugs that go into your valve cover. It's part your your valve cover gasket and they are much cheaper to buy at a Cummins dealer. Dodge marks up the same parts much much more than Cummins does.
