Intermittent Rough Running

For the last few weeks I've been experiencing some intermittent problems. If you really get into the pedal, say for instance to get into traffic, around 2000 rpm the enging starts to "miss" or as I've read on some other posts "buck" excessively bad. It will continue to do this usually until it shifts back into overdrive, when the rpm's drop back down, then it settles back down and runs fine. I have also had this same thing happen just cruising around 70 mph while going up a steep hill, usually before you get to the top of the hill. Again, usually some kind of interuption in rpm, shifting or backing off the pedal, will cause the problem to go away. I've taken it to my local diesel technician, he rode with me with diagnostic tool plugged in, and said he couldn't see any readings that were bad. His only suggestion was to check the wiring from my Edge box to the injector pump and make sure it was getting a good connection. He suggested soldering the connection point to make sure. One thing I have noticed, but I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem, is that now when I turn the key to the on position I don't hear the fuel pump running for a few seconds like I used to before starting the engine.

Any help would be appreciated, or if I haven't provided enough info, just let me know.

last fall i had the "bucking issue" you mentioned. All it turned out to be was the wiring on the alternator was rubbing. Don't know if this helps but if it does it is an easy fix!

thanks for the reply luckyrogue, but I had that problem last year. I've fixed the wire over the alternator and that solved my transmission problem. This problem is with the engine. I bought a new lift pump yesterday, will be putting that on tomorrow, since the old one was completely dead. Maybe that will help some.

I was really hoping to get more replies from this forum, maybe some of you guys out there will still give some suggestions for things to check.

this is a problem that many of us are chaseing. Some say it a timing and temp thing "IAT sensor voltage". Some have fixid it with some electrical knowledge and resistor connected to the IAT sensor. Some say its fuel pressure related. I am running a FASS 18 psi at idle and 16 at WOT and this helped alittle. Sorry there doesn't seam to be a quick and easy fix. I have found that getting in the go pedal slow and steady seams to minimize the bucking, instead of just stab'n it.
