Intermittent Rough Idle

Hey guys/gals,
I did a search and didn't come up with any real good info so I wanted to throw this out there and see what you all know so far.
Rough Idle happens sometimes during the day. Does happen everyday. Has times when it runs like a top. Most noticable at stop lights. I'm afraid to take it in b/c I've heard they will tell me that b/c I don't tow with it A LOT then the motor's not being used the was it was designed to do under load.
It was soo bad today my wife (who is not a diesel head) asked if I had used the fuel additive (Stanadyne blue), which I use 9oz every tank.
Should I go ahead and bring it in to Dodge so they can send me away with a crappy excuse?
They have already told me over the phone that they want me to do a $$ diesel injector cleaning.
truck has 34K on it, with little towing done, maybe 600 miles.
thanks for any help.
Jamie

Is it possible you know someone that needs a load, a big one, moved so you can clean out the carbon per say. That way, someone will think you're really nice and gain brownie points with the wife.

While all the while, you're just revitalizing the CTD.

If that doesn't work, then think about takin' her into the dealer.

I had the same problem and replaced the fuel filter (it wasn't due, but hey what the heck) and it hasn't done it since. I think I got some crappy fuel so I'm gonna do the next filter at a half interval too.

I pull a trailer with ATVs about 2x a month worth about 4500lbs. I've pulled a skid steer and HEAVY trailer totaling about 19 or 20K for a day about 3 months ago wound up bending my hitch down about 3 or 4mm. This has been going on more and more since I bought it. Nothing to do with the quad box. I've removed it and checked... rough idle still there.

For the difference in price between a filter and a CP3 I think I'm gonna join you in that.

thanks... that makes me feel a little better about all those fuel filters, although not doing me any good right now.

I dont think that pulling a load has much to do with it. My truck pulls probably 10 days a month, and quite heavy at times. It will do the rough idle deal every now and then. No real pattern to it that i can find.

I have noticed this on my truck in the past month. Then I realised that its hot out and the A/C is on. At idle it really effects the engine when the compressor kicks in.

I have and it doesn't go away. When I got the box I was hoping it would improve the problem, but no luck.

My '06 used to do it really bad. This should be good for a comment or two, but when I switched to ULSD, it didn't do it any more. I haven't had it idle rough once since I switched. Now, to be fair, when I switched, I went to a different station, so it could be the quality of fuel. At times, mine would idle so rough that it felt like it was running on 3 cyl. . . . the whole truck would shake. Changed the fuel filter . . . no difference. Dealer said I wasn't running it hard enough . . . towed my 10K trailer for 5 hours . . . . still did it.

I think it is the quality or type of fuel.
