INTERMITTENT cruise control

Hey guys and gals,

Starting to notice something wierd on my truck here.

I use cruise ALOT since i have a heavy right foot and i noticed that when traveling on a slight decline , cruise seems to have a hard time figuring out weather or not to give it some gas or not.

On- off - on - off - on - off........bla bla bla going on.

I drive the six speed and i can see the throttle pulling on and off.
Its hard to feel and sometimes just confuse it for an irregular raod but i can see the stick lurching forward and back as the cruise screws around.

Any thoughts?

Thanks a ton.

my 06 with the auto does it all the time with the cruise on. Unless you are on a pretty steady pull it will do it when you are on a downhill or even pulling a long hill. It's like they can't decide where to be. I think it might have something to do with bleeding the rail pressure off after it has given it a little throttle. Sorry i cant help you better.

Just be glad you don't have intermittent steering - otherwise known as DW!

I had that problem and discovered, after it went out completely, that the vacuume line that goes to the servo had a hole rubbed, looked more like cut, into it. The bad news is that it was the one under the battery box. I had to pull the drivers side inner fender well liner after I ran a vacumme test to determine that is what was really wrong with it.

That sounds like a lot of work, need to change oil this weekend will take a close look at the lines, but a vacuume leak does make sense. Was your surgeing really drastic, because my is noticable but not severe.

on an old F150 we have(1990), (was my main driver till i got the dodge ) when ever i tried to use the cruise in the rain, it would lightly surge. just enough to be anoying, so i couldnt use it. so weird, just in the rain. worked prefect any other time.
another anoying thing about that truck- is the antenna will buzz really loud cutting the air when the humidity? is at a certain level.

I could engage the CC and as soon as I hit a small incline it would let go completely and I would not be able to engage CC until I shut down the truck and got going again. At first it was annoying and unpredictable and it progressed into why bother. I got up close and personal with everything under my hood when I did my first oil change(on this truck). I found a small tube (maybe 3/16 around) headed under the driver side battery. I then traced it and found a gaping hole where it had been rubbing on something. I did not feel like pulling the battery so I cut out the bad spot and used a blue butt splice and some silicon to couple the two ends. I took that opportunity to rerout that tube to reduce the chance of this happening again. My cruise control now works like a champ and an annoying vibration sound from what sounded like under my dash has ceased.

We don't have the same transmission or the same problem, but I think the vacuum tubes are probably the easiest and cheapest place to start. My fix cost me nothing (butt splice and silicon provided by company I do contract work for) but time and put my pickup OOC until I was sure the silicon was completely cured.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Ill take a look for that vacume line. Mine seems to do just fine up grades without any problems. It just seems to get confused on flat land.

It sometimes gets confused as to where the last setting was at when i hit resume too. It sets itself at five over or five under where i had it set before i hit the brake. That sounds like a vacume might be a part of that too.

I use cruise constantly as my foot is way to heavy for my own good. After having a few suspended licences and a probationary licence on my record for too many points accumulated from speeding tickets, my new slogan is "cruise or lose"

Cruise is my friend...... when it works properly

Thanks guys
