Instrument cluster malfunction

I am in need of guidance as quickly as possible. My instrument cluster is intermittent. The obvious problem is that the speedometer does not work, as well as the eng temp and oil temp gauges. Now here is the kicker...It seems to have something to do with the signal light. When it is working and I use the signals, it quits, and also when it quits working, I use the signals and most of the time it comes back on. I am afraid what appears to be a short somewhere, will eventually start a fire. If anyone can help me out with this, I would greatly appreciate it. It is my only vehicle and I know that taking it in will cost me a fortune for them to troubleshoot. Thanks

Nobody can help you until you fill in the specs of your vehicle. Use the specs of my vehicle, or the posts from other members as examples.

Doubt if it is a short, more likely a loose wire or a bad component. Did you try doing a search under similar problems? Lots of helpful info there.

I unfortunately can't help you with the electrical problem. But I might be able to help out in another way. If you are on the road and your instrument cluster freaks out and the speedometer fails as well, then you can go by your RPM gauge for your speed. If you ever watched how fast you were driving and observed your RPM's (RPM and speed relationship), speed is set by RPM. Make since??

2006 Dodge Ram instrument cluster failures are common.

Do a search and you will find folks who soldered the broken solder joints or replaced their cluster.

As for the poster who suggested to use the tach to determine vehicle speed...

A much better method is to use the GPS in your cell phone.
Use your phone to check/calibrate your speedometer also.

If your phone GPS is awkward to display the vehicle speed, there are tons of free "speedometer" apps available.
