Installing external trans filter

I've lost one trans due to a convertor failure and I'd like to have some insurance to prevent this from happening again. I'm making a purchase soon so I'd like to get opinions on the various setups and those who have installed them. BD power makes a kit, Dieselsite also, or there's the homemade variety. Let's hear about them please.

Thanks

Well I guess this isn't as common of an addition as I thought. Anyhow, I bought the setup from DieselSite and will report back after I get er' done.

Dieselsite products very good.

Just stop by my dealer. I asked the service manager once how much they charged for a 50k mile auto trans service for the 48RE and he said $200, and that includes replacing both the internal and external filters. I replied that was a lot of money, and that my truck didn't have an external filter anyway. He said "I assure you it does!".

A few years ago I installed a by-pass transmission filter. I bought a 3/4 X 16 filter mount from fleetfilter.com, which accepts a Ford type filter. I installed it on the return line from the transmission cooler. I am currently using a K & N filter #HP 3001, which is rated at 10 microns. It works for me.

external filter! Think I'd run from this dealership, he has this confused with another manufacture. As to running an external, I've used the Magtech in line for 7 years now with no issues. You can google and get a supplier. They have a internal bypass in case it gets plugged.

Has anyone used the Gano filter? Clear inline filter that can be cleaned out as needed? Can also watch the flow to help troubleshoot any coolant issues.

Dieselsite one works for me,been on about 3 years now.It runs the Baldwin BT839 filter with an internal bypass. It is a good quality kit, mine has the ss lines.Filters run about 10 bucks each that i change twice a year regardless of miles, basically spring/fall changes. There is a 1/8 temp or pressure port off of the filter head,i run a pressure gauge to the cab.Hope this helps----DW
