Injectors questionable - nearing end of warranty

I noticed a puff of white/gray smoke this morning at startup. I've not noticed this before, but the truck was parked this morning in such a way that the smoke was more easily seen - so it's possible it's been doing this for some time. I guess it could have been condensation, but I've also had an intermittent miss at startup (which quickly resolves itself) and some gasser-type pinging sounds when cruising. I put 8oz of Howes Meaner Kleaner at each fill-up. It seems to help, but that could be a placebo effect.

In a few weeks, I will be reaching the 7 year mark on my truck (with only 55k miles) and with it goes all my warranties. I would prefer to have Dodge foot the bill for new injector(s) if they're needed. I'm pretty sure they're not going to fail completely in the next few weeks. What is the process to test the injectors? Any suggestions on how to "encourage" the dealer to do this based on my symptoms? I would even consider paying them (or an independent) to do the test. How much should that cost?

I have the same problem with 69,000 miles and wrnty up on the 23rd of this month. Mine doesn't seem to get the same mpg's as it used to either.

I took mine it with 99,300 on it due to a slight miss that was noticable with my Superchips on.

I removed the tuner and the K&N Filter and put in a stock Filter (air). I also had replaced the batteries a day before so it may have wiped out the memory of the tuner but I do not know that for sure? They told me they check every diesel for tuners and evidently did not find one on mine (its been there since 5000 miles). I had also just done an oil change including a new fuel filter. I do all of my own maintenance but I keep very good records and gave them my notebook when I took it in.

They replaced all of the injectors and the intank fuel pump and a fuel line or two I think. I had to pay for a 250.00 oil change and it was a done deal.
Here is what I would do:

1. Change oil and filter, replace air filter, replace fuel filter. Use all Dodge stuff. Flush out the fuel filter cannister real well.

2. Remove any tuners or evidence of tuners.

3. Remove battery cables for several minutes. Clean the connections and paint it all up with that red battery cable paint. If the dealer asks, tell him you saw a little corrosion and wanted to clean it up. It also has the nice feature of erasing the short term memory for you.

4. Fill it up with good fuel and no additives.

5. Take it to the dealer and tell them about "joe blow on the internet says I have bad injectors" and all the other internet posts you have read. Be sure and take your maintenance records. If you dont do the oil changes there get the records from whoever does it. If you do it yourself, you will need the receipts.

Good luck!

Interesting...my truck is bone stock and the dealer has done all the oil changes every 5k. So, I shouldn't have an issue there. I do use a fuel additive and probably need a fuel filter change pretty soon - so I'll take care of those first. I also have a couple of minor leaks they told me I should take care of while still under warranty. Maybe I should complain about the injectors at that time and hope they'll take a look. I guess it's worth a shot... Thanks for the suggestion.
