Purchased my truck used, dont know injector situation. I have recently been having occasional hard starts. Idles a little rough but nothing crazy. No haze or smoke at idle and she warms up she runs great. checked valve lash, thats good. Checked balance rates today, the highest i saw was +- 2, but when i put her in drive or reverse and held brake #3 cylinder held at +4. and # was a little high as well. been running power service and mystery oil, seems to help. I dont know what the norm is for balance rates on a cummins. Any ideas? The only thing that is making me worry is the hard starts otherwise she runs great. Oil is a little sooty even with bypass 2 micron filter on.

Really I just need to know the balance rate limits on the Cummins cr injector. I keep hearing different numbers. Some people say +-3 or +-4. The truck shows no signs of bad injectors except the occasr hard start. I just don't want to burn a piston. Egts are good.
