Injectors...

Pulling the 5'er down from OR the truck was running normally like a raped ape up and over the mountains at 60-65. all is normal when I got down to the flats and "DING" the check engine light comes on and I lost most power. I coasted to next exit and limped into parking lot. Pulled P2149 from the computer. Did a road side inspection of harness and couldn't find anything. 260 mile tow for truck and trailer next morning 8-(

Ohm'd the harness in the shop and all checked fine, did the same with valve cover gasket. Upon checking the injectors, I get ~55 ohms on all but #5 which was 75. Bad injector? I have to admit, I am good about maintenance on the truck with the exception of the fuel filter. Could the injector be plugged and cleaned?

Opinions? Advice?? What options do I have???

You can replace just one, but some believe you'll be on borrowed time at that point.. Or that you'll never get it to run perfectly unless you pull them all and send to Exergy or some other company to be balanced..

I say try one for now.. But a set might be in order if it doesn't run well.

Sounds like the solenoid went caput. Where did you do the ohm test? The harness that runs in the valve cover is also known to have issues.

I went over to Valley Injectors in Woodland, CA today and met with Alex. very impressed with this shop, clean, professional, and willing to help. we decided to replace the one injector today and that did get the truck running. I believe its going to be time to replace all the injectors with a balanced set soon as the truck just doesn't seam to run all that smooth.

one question. does running the Smarty put excessive stress on the injectors and if so what's the best injecyor to install?

Depends on the setting you use on the Smarty.. Run stock rail pressure and that'll help.. But like suggested above, proper filtration is the REAL key to keeping a CR alive..

As for which brand, the bodies / internals are all basically close but nozzles are where aftermarket stuff is either good or bad..

As for internals though, Bosch internals is best..

I had the same problem 2-weeks ago on my 03...P2149 code which is one of the back 3-injectors....a 2146 code is one of the front 3....started checking wires, and after pulling the valve cover to start un-hooking and checking injectors I found one to have both wires loose....they are tiny nuts and were only finger tight. I got them tight and checked the other 5 and they appeared to be ok/tight... I'm at 132K, I feel I got very lucky this time !!
