injectors

Just found out from fellas workin on my truck that it needs at least three injectors (might as well change them all). Was wondering where out on the west side of the States would be the best place to get injectors. When the truck went down it was wierd, it was running fine when I turned it off but when I started it back up (it was still warm) it ran like it was running on three cylinders after it ran a few seconds it ran fine again. Did that twice. Then I turned it off for a long time, it cooled down and never started again.

wow, i have never heard of them doing that before....were you having a shop work on them? did they say what was actually WRONG with the injectors?

I just replaced mine, and I would not recommend using stockers (about 3 grand for the 6). it is way more cost effective to send them off and have them rebuilt. check out Don M at www.F1diesel.com. worth every penny (half the price of stockers). you will add 40 more horse, and have some bomb proof injectors to boot.

if you can, you might try replacing them yourself, its actually pretty easy to do (just a litte time consuming) and you can save some more money.

good luck!

edit---

after all that, I notice you are still under warranty, why not just let dodge find you some? or would you rather have better ones in there?

Yep, seems to be a pretty common deal. My truck is getting a new #5 today. I had similar symptoms as you but not near as bad. I think I caught mine early! I am going to go with Formula 1's if it ever needs it again. I am however adding 2 micron filtration ASAP!~

the guys that I had look at my truck are the best around. They did a flow test and determined that my truck had too much return flow which indicates at least one bad injector, they also informed me that if one injector went bad the truck would shut down a block of three. I decided to contact the nearest dealer and he said he would warranty the truck. He also said if one injector was bad they would only change that inj. but if two or more were bad they would change them all, I'm hoping for....!!!!!

I just picked up my 07 tonight from the dealer. He said the same if it is 1, then they replace that ONE, if two or more then all 6 come out. My truck was good on all but the #5 which was at 88% and out of spec. So far it is driving really well after the replacement! GDP 2 micron will be here on Tuesday!

I had heard that 2 micron filters added extra strain on the fuel system....also, do most auto parts stores carry 2 or 5 micron filters?

ian 515, I asked about the Lift pump capability as well. GDP told me that if I am STOCK ( Which I am) that the Fuel pump will have no problem with the 2 micron. My Baldwin Drop in is 7 Micron and the Fleetguard / GDP filter is 2 micron. Hope that helps...

OK, I got ahead of myself here... The Baldwin is 5 micron by the way. OK, GDP ( GLacier Diesel Performance) makes a 2 Micron Filter mount that you use to attach a FLEETGUARD ( Cummins) Fuel filter too. The kit allows you to remove the Fuel line from the Fuel Filter housing to the CP3 and add a 2 Micron Fuel filter as well. So your Fuek gets filtered in the stock housing, then one more time down to 2 microns before being pushed into the CP3. Hope that helps. Lots of folks on here have the kit..

Lucked out, found out from dealer that they are replacing all six injectors.

On the other side of the coin, an ol boy I know that also drives an '05 took his truck into the dealer with the same problem as mine. They only replaced one injector on his truck and while the dealer was test driving it before returning his truck realized they were going to have to warranty the new injector they had just installed, so they decided to replace all six of his injectors.

the only way that they shut down 3 is when you have one solenoid failure on the injector they use each other the make the charge when they are not firing to their cylinder. these injectors require 48 volts to fire so they charge each other up in series of 3. when one goes down in a bank they all fail because of the lack of voltage.
