Injector went out at 79000 miles

First of all I should tell you guys that I take extremely good care of my truck. I run injector cleaner every other tank to try to mitigate the inevitable. Seems I could not avoid it. Injector went out at 79000 miles. I called Chrysler and since my truck was in "immaculate" condition and low milage for an 06, they covered half the cost. Seems the injector failed in grounding and not mechanically. I was throwing two codes. My question is should I be worried about having another injector fail soon? Thanks guys.

Sorry to hear you had one of your injectors go bad. But, don't feel like the lone ranger. I also have an 06' and at a little over 100,000 miles I had the "long cranking time and rough idle" come up on mine. It ended up being TWO bad injectors and a bad solenoid. I ended up replacing ALL of mine so I didn't end up on the side of the road DEAD. If I were you, I would have your other injectors checked. At least let a Dodge or Cummins Technician check them through the DRB scanner. IMHO,...these 2003-2011 Dodge CR Bosch Injectors are JUNK!! I never touched the mechanical 12V injectors in my old reliable 96' Dodge CTD 12 valve until I had over 200,000 miles!
The two Dodge dealers here in my area see CONSTANT problems with these Dodge CR Injectors in the 2003-2011 trucks.

What brand injector cleaner did you use????????????????

I use stanadyne or schaeffee oil, so far so good, but only 52K miles on my 05 model.

local dealership sells stanadyne

local heavy diesel truck repair shop recommends schaeffee oil, to keep injectors lubed.

Many inj cleaners run ground up magnesium as a cleaning agent.MMT is usually listed on the ingredients list, but not always. You are sandblasting the innerd's of your inj and the tips also(but that wont cause solenoid issues) and the MMT also drags dirt OUT of your fuel filter and deposits it in your injectors.I may get the flame job,but I put inj cleaners in the same class as synthetic motor oils...snake oil..and dangerous to an engine.

Power Service in the gray jug. Engine runs smoother and quieter compared to Stanadyne.

Don't need to run injector cleaner all the time either. Just something that has more lubricant in it w/ a cetane booster for colder temps.

I ran cleaner until my injectors went out. Now I don`t run anything. Not that I blame the cleaner, I just don`t think it did any good

I think clean fuel is a big help in keeping injectors.. I still have stock injectors and stock CP3.. 168k on my 2004.5... Had 2micron filter just before CP3 with less than 10k on the truck.. Looking to change injectors in the spring as I am sure the springs and internals have worn.. Had TST for the 1st 100k and then added Smarty/TST since that point on.. Filtering the fuel had to of helped..

Or you may have a very good source of clean fuel.. I used to work at a station in HS that did very good job of changing filters. Not every station changes filters as often as they should. Hope you have knoocked on some wood to keep the Luck Going!

Where did you hear or read that information??? As all DTR members, you are entitled to your opinion here, but I would like to see some hard core proof of the claims you made in your post Sir! I can't speak to all of the companies making fuel additives but I am pretty sure companies like Stanadyne, Power Service, Schaeffer and Lucas are making sure their ingredients aren't going to cause the types of problems you are claiming! FWIW,....Stanadyne has been in the diesel fuel and pump business since the early 1900's!

John P, actually it was in the supplement that Stanadydne sent with a reman injection pump I purchased a couple of years ago.Stanadyne and other reputable manufacturers list their product as a fuel system conditioner and supplement, using detergents and lubricants. The OP in this thread is using injector cleaner, and some do use the MMT.If you remember,MMT was removed from the motor fuels in 2005 after it was found in a large amt of our water supplys here in the US.It is allowed as a ingrediant in cleaners ect.Sorry bout any confusion. One product is a conditioner, the other(as used by the op) is a cleaner.Big difference.

I am familiar with what MMT is.

What I would like to know is what was the specific "supplement" that you say "Stanadyne" sent you?? Did you physically see that MMT was in the ingredients in that "supplement?" I ask that because I use both "Stanadyne" Performance Formula and "Stanadyne" Lubricity Formula and NEITHER of those products list the ingredients on their labels.

There is no confusion to me here. I just don't like seeing "blanket statements"
like those you made about products being used by our members here with nothing to back it up with. No offense to you, but saying a fuel supplement is: "sandblasting the innerd's of your inj and the tips also(but that wont cause solenoid issues) and the MMT also drags dirt OUT of your fuel filter and deposits it in your injectors" is a pretty serious charge as far as I am concerned Sir!

Just so you know, I live in eastern N.C. and am near Jacksonville which has a large "Stanadyne" Production Facility. I intend to bring this to their attention
and find out if, in fact, your claims about the MMT in their products are true or not and if MMT really causes the damage you say it does!

It was just a little yellow piece of paper that was in the box with the inj pump.Nowhere in the post does it say that Stanadyne uses MMT.They were letting the customer know that it was out there.I might still have the paper, because I had to empty the box to return my core(yes, they actually want 6.5/6.2 pumps back)

Interesting. I just turned 168k on my '04, and since about 10k on the truck I have run around 95% of the fuel first into my aux tank, then through a racor 2micron before it hits the main tank. I also use the 7 micron instead of the standard stratapore fuel filter. Powerservice in just about every tank. Not sure what's working, but I'm not tryin to jinx it!
