Thumbs down Improvement in 600 MPG

Hi All.

Can any of the new 600 owners with poor milage at the start update on their progress or lack thereof.

My truck is not doing to well in this departament, minor improvement about 1 MPG in 12k km.

Start:
city 9-10 MPG
Highway 12-13 MPG

Present:
city 10-11 MPG
highway 13-14 MPG

Plese state start MPG, milage and present MPG. Truck is empty.

Your input is greatly appreciated, I am thinking of getting rid of it.

Regards Jack.

No real improvement here...

Start 12.25mpg mixed city/hwy empty. (Truck bone stock)

Present 13mpg mixed city/hwy empty. (with the 315's installed... I lost about 1mpg, I was getting 14mpg consistently with the stock 245's, as if that's a good thing.)

9.1 mpg hwy towing 5K # boat downhill @ 65mph...

All time high, 15mpg empty hwy... must have been a good tail wind on that trip.

Thinking of trading this in on a Hemi for better mileage...

Everyone here needs to post engine build dates for their motors if they can. To properly compare mileage, and hopefully pin it on an ECM issue, engine build date is the only way to narrow it down, or find out if it is across all build dates of the 600's.

I test drove a 600, 4x2 SWB, quad cab, 6spd Saturday with my wife, and you all won't believe this, but when I pulled back into the dealer lot after a quick 20 mile trek, the overhead showed 21.6mpg avg. I reset it before I drove off the lot. 10 miles of it were going 70 down the freeway on the way back to the lot.

Engine build date unknown....I shoulda looked, but I wasn't interested in the red SWB truck, so I didnt look.

But I must say I was floored by the mileage.

2/2/04 Cummins Build Date.

I'm actually getting about 1mpg better on the highway but worse in the city and around town with the 315's.

Very happy with my truck! Feel awful for you guys getting 12mpg...that really stinks!

Engine build date 1/17/04.

Mileage is all over the map - depending on how my traffic is that week to work. City driving varies from 11.5-13 mpg.

Best highway tank was about 15. Of course, I have 4:10 gears, and a ahem , heavy foot. About 3700 miles on her now.

I have found the overhead to be pretty accurate, as long as I squeeze every last drop into the tank.

By the way, here in PA, they are having a HUGE advertising campaign about how you should stop at the "click off" when filling, wastes money, etc etc.

Yea right - if I stopped a the click, I'd have about 1/2 a tank. I can EASILY get another 3-4 gallons in after the first click.

Hey can you guys give me more build dates & average mileage - preferably HAND CALCULATED?

I am trying to make an excel chart, so the more info the better! If you have it post city & hwy mileage seperate.

If you guys have posted this elsewhere, please repost here so I can check back and get the info, i turned on email alert so I can grab it.....I am really interested to see where this leads.

From what I know, truck build date is on the inside of the door on the build tag?

Is the engine build date on the motor sticker?

Need more info please. More dates & mileages. If you can list city mpg / hwy mpg & overall avg it will help.

Does anyone know alot about charts?

I am wondering if I tried to char 4x4 / 4x2 / 2500 / 3500 / Auto / Manual if like a wheel chart would chart it all??? That way people could look at it and see what is geting what mileage by build date?

Anyone?

Build date's

My build dates:

eng: 01-20-04
truck: 01-04

At the time of original test drive comp. shown ~15 MPG, after dealer mechanics head their hands in to it and new fuel was introduced milage is as in original post.

I contribute 1 MPG gain to summer fuel and warm weather.

Regards Jack
