If you're on the fence about a 1 piece driveshaft

BUY IT!

I ordered mine from Doghouse Diesel a couple weeks back. The difference between the POS 2 piece and the 1 piece is incredible.

All the launch shudder when loaded with my 33' fifth wheel is gone. The various vibrations under everyday driving are gone.

Its well worth the $500. With all the vibrations and shudder gone,I don't get Edit off every time I drive my truck anymore.

A 1 piece for a longbed?? Mine has a lot of backlash and slamming, now that you mentioned it. I'm going to have mine over a greasepit this weekend - I need to check the u-joints for slop. Do they make one for an 03 LB? Craig

I also joined the 1 piece crowd.. Installed the 1 piece last night and have made a few short drives around town and have already noticed the difference.

I do believe my carrier may have been starting to fail.(150k)

It was more work to get the old one out than installing the New.. 6 extra bolts to remove carrier and mount.

Yes, they have one for your truck. I have a longbed 4x4 auto trans and I'm so glad I went to a 1 piece drive shaft. Best money I've spent on my truck in 6 years. The 2 piece junk drive shaft is a terrible mistake by Dodge !!!!!!

Doghouse only makes them for 4x4s. Are there any other mfgrs for Dodge PUs? I didn't come up with any doing a search. TIA! Craig

So would a one piece DS work kind of like a traction bar and prevent axle twist? I thought maybe they were to piece to prevent from tearing up your tranny.

I am not sure but would think the length on the 2wd would be much longer?

The item is a Dodge part.. I do not believe DogHouse to be making these shafts. I did see another but do not have it at the moment.. Think it was the Dodgeparts website. If you search around on this forum you will find the other Dodge source. Believe this is a part for the newer 2007+ trucks that also works on some of the older years vehicles.

I have seen what happens with the one pc DS and how the tranny housing can take some serious damage from one, that's why I ask. Anybody know.

No, a DS doesn't double as a traction bar and there has to be a slip yoke somewhere. My u joints feel tight but the slip yoke is sloppy. That would be a LONG 1 piece DS on a 2wd. Do the 4wds have a slip yoke on the back of the transfer case. If not, does the 1 piece DS come with a spline and slip yoke? Craig

I am curious. What models and years of truck came from the factory with a one piece and a two piece shaft? Mine came from the factory with a one piece drive shaft.

I installed a 1-piece driveshaft a year ago, no more vibrations and no more shudder, GREAT mod. Dodge went to them on the 2008's and up. The 2-piece shafts were costing them a small fortune in warranty repairs, about time they got smart, eh? I got mine from Doghouse, Rich is a GREAT guy to do business with. On the 2wds, any GOOD driveshaft shop can make you one.

The reason why the factory one piece alum. driveshaft won't work on stock height 2wd is the diameter. At nearly 6" in diameter, there is not enough body clearance.
