Idle Speed

Why do the manual tranny trucks idle around 800 and the auto trucks at 750? Is there a programmer out there that can bring the idle down to 600 or so? Seems like the idle would be MUCH quieter...and the clutch would not have to be slipped as much on takeoff.

Didnt the raise the idle on the 12v's from 600 due to epa regs or something?

my 06 idles at 750...

i wonder if its the 06.5 and up programming?

I can tell a huge difference in the 750 and 800 rpm idle..i hate how high my 07 idles. I have had a smarty, smarty jr and predator on it and it idles at 800...

Why do none of the programmers offer adjustment?

in my 05 f-150 my diablo programmer let me adjust the idle speed!

My '07 5.9 idles at 800. I'm sure there is a reason for it, as far as the clutch slipping, the truck will idle itself up anyway when put under load so I can't see a lower idle speed making much difference at all.
Kinda funny....most guys (me included) are, running around, jumping through hoops to get "high idle" engaged.

There are no programmers or chips that I'm aware of that allow idle adjustment, and as a matter of fact, a smarty or other that has recent software will speed your idle up to the 800 automatically. As far as the auto fuel goes your stuck with that also. It is the standard for heavy diesel applications and allows for throttle less starts while helping to prevent lugging.

10-4.

MY 07 is set at 800 and i hate it! Every time i get in my 06 its like a sigh of relief, 750 is noticeably smoother and quieter! The cam in my 07' helped it alittle, but the 06 still sounds much better and is quieter due to the lower idle(engine sounds)

Oh well

I have the 'AutoEnginuity' software with the Chrysler package, and there is an option for my 06 in the enhanced powertrain section to set the idle speed wherever you want it (within reason), You can also perform cylinder cutouts and many other things.

Its not all 3rd gens. Just 06.5 or 07+. Both my 05 and my dads 06 have the latest software and they idle at 750.

Thanks for the info I did not know that. I did wonder why some still idle at 750 after being updated but I really hadn't put much thought into it. I guess I thought it was a fluke. Why do you suppose the idle update only effects 06.5+ ?

I would guess it goes back to the EPA, but I am not sure? Maybe the DMF is noisy at 750?

We could probably guess all day.
