Idle Control Program
Idle Control Program
There are many threads about idle control and they seem to talk about two different types, the automatic high idle tht kicks up in cold temperatures and a program that allows you to control the idle speed using the cruise control buttons.
I need help with information about the program that allows you to control the idle speed with the cruise control bottons. My understanding, from reading threads on this site, is that the dealer can program the truck's computer to enable a high idle function. This functions allows you to set the idle speed when the vehicle is in park anywhere from 800 rpm to 1500 rpm using the cruise control buttons.
I have a 2004.5 2500 with the new 600 engine. I have been to two different dealers and asked about this program and neither dealer knows anything about what I am talking about.
Can anyone help me with information on this program? Does it exist for the 04.5's and, if so, how do I get it. I can't understand why my dealer has never heard of it if it exists.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated!!

I had my '04.5 into the dealer to have this done about a week or so ago. They were not able to do it.
Seems like it is only for the 04's as they had a complaint about little or no heat. I guess dodge fixed the thermosat
and now us that have the newer rigs are SOL for this. I have called Cummins, haven't heard back from them yet. The service manager at the dodge garage is also seeing if he can get more info.

I've got an update. I called DC yesterday and they told me that this flash does exist and that it is for the 04.5s. They told me that the dealers should be able to do it and to tell them to call the dealer tech service if they didn't know about it.
I called my dealer (for the third time) and told them that I know it exists and that I wanted them to put it in for me. They told me that they didn't know about it (for the third time) and that they would check and call me back. They called me back within an hour and set me up with an appointment.
I'll see how it goes when I take the truck in.
