How much carbon is normal on injector tips?

Hi, I just swapped out my old injectors on a 2006 with around 50K....I had carbon or coking around the tips where they fit inside the head (I could pull most of it off with my fingers) Kind of like a little 3/4" long hollow straw of carbon if I could keep it from crumbling....some injectors had the carbon in the injector holes in the head so I used a brass AR-15 chamber brush on em and blew out the pieces with compressed air. Oh and I may have been using some SVO in a "few" tanks. How much is normal? Any thoughts? Has anyone decarboned their tips and had good luck? It looks as though I could just clean up the tips with a wire wheel and run em.

Thanks,

Dar

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Don't clean tips with wire brush.
The carbon does not seem to upset the injection pattern as mine ran fine with similiar amount of carbon(except for bad one). The pressure or pattern on one was bad as engine missed and knocked on that cylinder. The Injector tip was washed clean also. I believe a water injection systm used lightly will clean the entire combustion chamber.

Do NOT wire wheel the tips. If you must, use some chemicals to clean them. A wire wheel or brush is too abrasive and it could disfigure the tip.... it has been done before.

I use water injection and run about 1 gallon a week through the system driving back and forth to work. Its not bare metal but close to it on the valves and injector tips from guys that pulled their heads after running water. It does something because after a week or 2 running it the engine ran smoother at idle.

How much SVO are you talking about? That stuff can cause crazy amounts of carbon in high quantities. Thats why guys heat it to 250+ before injection.

Thanks dozer...I have been thinking about buying or building a water injection system....I don't need the mileage but I don't want to change any more injectors....It is pretty hard to get your veggie oil hotter than the engine coolant...I am running three exchangers and a heated filter (below 50) and I am lucky to get it to 195...that is pretty hot for most setups....I had some plumbing issues early on that may have led to an early demise for a couple injectors.

Thanks guys
