Reason for having this done was because of the truck made a much louder knocking noise than before. The diesel tech said it was from carbon build up. Said it idle too much, total hours on truck are 465 and idle time was 180 hours. Also informed him that I only drive about 12 miles to work and he said that wasnt good either. Only time I let if idel is to take my son into daycare and that is twice a day. I figure max 5 minutes a day. Also told me that I have pulled heavy on 10% of the time, which is about right.
Guess, I need to move or find a new job so I can drive further!! Or buy a gasser!!!
Also had them look to see if I could get the TSB 18-037-04 done. Couldnt, my truck didnt call for it. Think build date is 9/03.

I have a short drive to work also, much shorter than yours. So far no problems, but I do run Power Service Diesel Klean with every fillup. You may want to try that.

ckennedy, I usually buy Power Service at Wal-Mart or Tractor Supply Company. Also can find it at auto parts stores and truck stops. Not sure if anyone sells it online.

I'm kind of curious about the 180 hour idle time over 465 engine hours. That means that engine idles almost 39% of the time, or idles for 23 minutes for every hour the engine is on. A far cry from "5 minutes a day."
Heck, mine can idle for 2 minutes or so at each red light. Hit a few redlights on a busy street in the District of Columbia, and that translates to a lot of idling.
Is this idle time data stored in the ECM? I know all about the engine hour readout etc.
I'm wondering if someone left the ignition key on with engine off for long periods/overnight?

Dealer said idle time is only when in park. Not stopped at stop light. I heard you could pull the hours on the OD by holding it in for several seconds and it will display lots of info. Think it includes idle time but you got to know what you are looking for.
On the Power Service Diesel Klean, I seen it at wallyworld. They have 2 different types, I need to read them and see what's different about them. I asked the tech if any of that stuff would help and he said NO.

Every time you let completely off the peddal it adds up idle time. My dealer said that I had high idle time as well and I thought that was odd till I started thinking abought all the times my foot is not on the peddal.
