How many miles will the 48RE transmission last
#18
I have 166,500 miles. Just towed my 12,000lb fifth wheel from MD to TX the northern route through IN. Worked like a champ. If I ever have to replace mine I will use a local Chrysler tranny expert in Denton or go with a Goerend.

I tow for a living and my last one went 440,000 miles.
It was stock.

This is an old thread, but my truck just threw this code again. It has been almost a year and now I have 96k miles. I have noticed a few times over the winter when the truck would not downshift to 1st when I stop. When taking off again the trans was obviously in 2nd gear and then would downshift to 1st. A couple of times I would manually shift to 1st then back to D to force it into 1st on take off.
This is one of the solenoids rights? Is there a good online place to order the parts for my truck, 2007 5.9 4x4 MegaCab? How many solenoids are there and are they easy to replace? I have tools and the ability to change them I just don't know much about automatic transmissions.
With the past replies to this thread it would seem that the transmission probably still has some life in it. My truck is completely stock.
Thanks,
Bobby

I got @240k on mine before a rebuild. The reason for it was that the torque converter bolts loosened up and wrecked the flex plate. While replacig the FP I also had a new TC and valve body installed. This is on a stock truck that tows @ 5-7k two or three times a month

Mine's an 06 and I am pushing 260,000 miles on mine. I did have to replace the governor pressure sensor and solonoid (may be where your code is coming from)but other than that it has been great.
I think as long as you drive it right and not dog it all the time there should be no reason it wont last well over 100,000 miles.

200K on mine, and all ive done to it is the solenoids, and its been good to me, and i dont drive on stock either.. I drive it on a five setting on a smarty S06..
I just let it pick up speed on its own, and not dog it, I also tow a four horse gooseneck, and a 32 foot gooseneck with the trans, and alls good... and several other smaller trailers...

Make sure you change the transducer when you change the gov pressure solenoid. Use the aftermarket solenoid from Borg Warner, its much better than the stock unit. Here's where I got mine from - http://www.electricaladvantage.net/r...idkit00up.aspx

Thanks for the replies and help. I purchased the solenoid and pressure sensor from the place in the previous post. I got the parts in 3-4 days and my Dad and I put them in this weekend.
It was very easy, I reset the code and all seems well for now. The magnet had about a pea size amount of wear material total. It was about the same the last two times I have changed the oil so I am hopeful I have a few more miles left before a rebuild.

Rebuilt mine at 120K. It was fine...took it in for a simple tranny fluid change and there was a 2-3 inch chunk of a C-clip in the pan. What should have been a $100 day ended up being $2300.

Mine has 169,000 on it but In all fairness I've changed the oil & filter every 30,000 miles which might be extreme. One thing I did learn, adjust the bands every 50,000 or so. Good luck

I have 107K on my stock trans and engine. Not one problem yet. Planning some trips in a few months and will tow 7k. Should these parts be replaced as preventive maint?
