How long will she live

I had the #3 injector fail somewhere along my drive back to San Antonio from Houston which resulted in a large mess under the truck. My question is how long can these engines run with only the diesel fuel being the only lubrucation. The dealer only wants to replace the failed injector and replace the 12 quarts of oil that blew out send it on down the road.

1st thought: Check oil pressure.

Case in point, my '06 with 4500 miles gets >70PSI (HOT) at 2500 RPM. I don't recall (manual at home) but there are pressure specs at idle and 2500 RPM. IIRC, >45PSI at 2500 RPM, HOT.

If you are <45, HOT, reject the motor. They may be able to put a new oil pump in, but the cam, rod, and main bearing would have too much wear. A new oil pump may, depending upon miles on the motor, improve the situation a little to mask the bearing wear.

How many miles on your rig?

Tony

The truck has 30,600 miles as of today, the oil pressure seems to be reading normal on the instrument panel.

Don't know if you guys know this but the factory oil pressure gauge isn't worth a crap. The sender senses if it is under a certain pressure(think it was stated on here 5 PSI). The ECM is preprogrammed with what it should read at a certain temp. SOOO, it is a fake gauge. You can do a search on it.
