How long to change tran and transfer case fluid??
So im getting ready to place my amsoil order and I just rolled over 31K and was wondering how crucial is it for me to change out my transfer case oil and G56 oil? Could it wait another 15K? or is it life or death that it gets done now? miles are 99.9% hwy if that makes a difference. Quick help is appreciated!

The real answer to your question lies in how much temperature and hard use has that fluid seen, not necessarily the absolute mileage. If you don't tow heavy and the fluid has not seen high heat, you will be fine for another 15k. If it has, well, you'll have to decide that. The Amsoil is a quality product; you'll be happy with that.

Owners manual says to change the G-56 oil at 60,000 miles for sever use. Never mentions changing it for Schedule A. I tow very heavy on weekends with my G-56 so I change it every 20,000 or so. Of course differentials every 15,000 until my warranty is up, then will go longer there.

It is best to get all the break in wear metals out early and then you can extend the intervals out. Transfer case is not so pertinent on changes but your G56 I'd change out atleast every 30k and early on the first time. Trans can shear and beat up the oil quite a bit.

I don't tow nothing heavy. All i have is a 14' john boat and the ain't .... for my truck. But i do beat on it and push it. I'm just about turning 60,000 now. So when the beast goes in for the new South Bend I'm having them change every thing. I supply the Amsoil and they do the rest. I did my first differential cahnge at 30,000 and the oil looked fine. 10,000 mile for the oil, and 60,000 for the tranny and tranfer.

My factory transfer case oil was REALLY bad at 20,000 miles. Black and smelly!! I've seen others that were not.
AND
G56's are starting to show up with some problems from wear & tear.... mostly on moded trucks but...?
05MX is correct...."It is best to get all the break in wear metals out early and then you can extend the intervals out".
I would get factory oil out fairly quickly on any new vehicle.... say 20,000 miles on drive train and 5,000 on engine oil. First chance to be sure all is as should be! JMO!

I switched to Amsoil ATF in the G-56@3500 miles. Stock fluid was perfect with no particles or fuzz on the drain plug. The Amsoil does improve the shifting incrementally. Be sure and lay down a big piece of cardboard as the fluid is thin and slimy and no matter how hard you try it's gonna be messy. PS. I carry a 2000# popup on my back 24/7. I don't know what that translates to a far as towing or load goes. Mag-Hytec's going on the back @ 15,000 miles.
