John :D

How do you do that?

Its a TSB thats been out for over a year; but it only applies to auto's, not handshakers.

Works on '03's too.

The TSB has been posted on this site many times; you musta forgot??

I don't think I forgot. So....if the trucks have this built in high idle feature then why on earth are so many people looking for ways to make their trucks high idle? Why not just use the cruise??

For what it's worth....it doesn't work on my truck.

I did a quick search; here's a thread, and there's a link to the TSB in question.

Manual for my 2004.4 says don't allow to idle for long periods. No specified time though. This concerns me as well as I leave it idling with AC on to keep family cool while I take boat out of water and wipe down, approx thirty minutes. My question is how come big rigs idle all night? I always heard this was better for diesels.

It is WAY harder on that engine to restart it than let it idle . I drive concrete trucks and they idle majority of the time .........turning a hyd pump for mixer entire time I might add . No probs at all ...............Cummins just tells you that because new the rings are not fully seated and it MIGHT dilute oil with fuel . These new engines seal so well they raised interval to 15,000 miles but DC follows severe schedule . I let mine idle all the time ,sometimes 30 minutes or more ................it's your truck and your decision ................but I think everyone is WAY to paranoid of this .

I idle for hours at a time. Sometimes every day. I idled all of the gas pick ups I ever owned. If this Cummins wont take it I will get something else. Something tells me it will take it. I never get any excess smoke or any thing else, even after idling 4 or 5 hours. I am not going to burn up or freeze to save a pickup. It's for my comfort not vice versa.

How do I get it to rev up. I have an 05 AUTO with cruise and can't figure out how to make it high idle... ?

BigBlue 09-02-2004 06:16 PM

Cut a stick and wedge it between your seat and your pedal. If RPM is to high, shorten stick. If to low, get a new stick.

Patrick Campbell 09-02-2004 06:42 PM

Err, I meant with the cruise control ;) It's a rental, I'm just playing with it...

BigBlue 09-02-2004 07:56 PM

Ahh. I see.
