How Do You Remove The Baffles

When I was doing my the air box mod I noticed the baffles in the torque tube. My original plan was to replace it with a 5'' ID aluminum tube. But I did not like the loose fit in the rubber elbows or how hot it got. Looking at the stock tube the baffles look like two interlocking piece's. They do not look like they are glued or welded inside the tube. Could I take a sazall & cut through the center of the baffles when pull the sides out of the ribs. It was getting dark & cold with one to many buds helping. I just put the stock tube w/baffles back in.

yea, but you got to break it....take a small tipped flat head and pop off the top i belive, just work with it to pry it off of there. then the baffles fall right out. super glue and electrical tape back on....glue holds, but tape is for looks...

I used some 2 part epoxy. Get this before you take it apart, or you'll be taking someone else's truck to autozone...

I replaced mine with a 5" pipe. You'll need to tighten the clamps down more, but it works just fine. As for it getting warm, I found that it stays pretty cool. I put my hand on it when stopping to get fuel after being on the highway for several hours, and it was actually cold to the touch.

I think it's a lot easier to do than cutting the housing.

I tried tapping it with a hammer/screwdriver/chisel, nothing.

I just took a piece of 5" exhaust pipe I had laying around and used that instead, if you tighten the clamps down all the way its still plenty snug, although a 5.5" pipe is ideal.

get in a destructive mind set, when you hear "cracking", "poping" your doing good, keep going till the lid comes off, then simply glue/tape whatever the top back on...and install.

My baffles didn't just fall out, I had to tap them out with the butt of the screwdriver.

Make sure to use a 2 part epoxy, super glue will not work!
Place a couple of phone books on top wor weight - or what have u.
This does need to seal very well. ( I was paranoid for a few weeks and constantly checked to make sure that the top had not come loose.)
Good luck and enjoy.

I looked @ trying to remove those baffles and said screw it! I got a piece of 5.5 aluminum tubing and replaced the plastic tube with it. This is what I got.

Some pics pending for my gallery showing how/where the tube separates and the sophisticated array of tools I used. To stick it back together, two-part epoxy.

Just like buckshotmcgee's. Go to your local sheet metal shop and have them build you a 5.5 x 8" aluminum tube and your good to go. I just didn't paint mine. His looks better. Also with the aluminum tube you will hear your turbo more.

I agree, it's a lot easier to go get a piece of 5.5" thick wall aluminum tubing than trying to crack open the silencer tube.

Nice paint Buckshot! I polished my tube.

I just painted mine black for the time being, 5" exhaust pipe and the bend section of a 4" downpipe...
