With a code reader

device that has that feature. I found one at a local liquidation outlet store and have cleared codes, I think it is a Cen-Tech.

After a certain number (cannot recall how many) of key cycles, it will clear by itself.

Or, disconnect the batteries (both) hook the + / - cables together on both sides to completely drain the ECM for 30 min. Any soft codes should go away.

After 3 successful starts the CEL should be off.

But that doesn't necessarily mean the issue is resolved.

The couple of times I have had codes and had to erase them I disconnected the batteries , turned the key on for a couple of minutes. Turn the key off connect batteries and the codes were gone.

Disconnecting the batteries will not clear a code, it will turn off the check engine light but the code is still in the ECM.

It does turn the CEL off and I have not been able to pull the code up through the odometer with cycling the key trick so I assume the code is erased. I have had the truck hooked up to a DRBIII and it found no codes either.

It is disconnect the batteries and then turn the key on.
