Brake and ABS light ON

I have a 3500 dually and after I started to drive the truck off the lot the lights came on. Well, this was back in Jan. Didnt bother me much, cause my 97 did the same and I never fixed it. Put on a programmer and lights went off. I noticed that as long as I keep it under about 45 mph, lights stay off. When I get on the interstate lights come on. I think its the ABS sensor in the rear axle. Any opinion is welcome. Thanks

It can be just a sensor. I replace the front left on mine and took care of the light.

there's a good thread somewhere.

most folks take of the sensors and clean them, clean mounting pad to bare clean metal, and it's GTG for a long time.

mine flickers every once ta while, but goes away before i get the energy to work on it.

When my truck's ABS/Brake Lights came on, I pulled the sensor out of each front hub and cleaned the grease off the sensor's tip.

I then re-applied a fresh coating of synthetic grease and reinstalled each sensor. The lights never came back on!

My ABS came on a couple months back while towing, and fit an uneven bridge junction.
Yesterday, I heard a "ding" from the dash, and my ABS & BRAKE lights came on. when It happened, it was in cruse, and the trk slowed, then kicked back in.

I used a Smarty JR to check for codes, and it showed an "INVALID SIM KEY" code.

It happend again, and no code showed, but the smarty said it cleared one.

Today, I disconnected all add ons, shut off the Pac Brake, and no cruz after it did it a few times.

I did not clear anything, as the last time I did, it came rightback, and wanted the dealer to see it when I take it in this week.
It ran fine with the ABS/BRAKE lights on, just heard a few "ding" every now and then.

After stopping for coffee, and hitting the road wioth a 100mi or so to go, the lights just went off....

Could all of this be due to dirty/bad ABS sensors on the front end??? Do the hubs have to come off to get at them?
I guess the rings can be cleaned while left on.

This would be great if that all that is causing this...50K on the trk and with some of the other things happening with it, my wife says "guess you'll be getting a differant truck now!"..

So i guess that answers my own thoughts on switching to an older Dana rear end...just gotta put up with the lights.

this forum is truly great.

On Edit:
There is no ABS connection on the rear end. So I guess an old Dana would work.

Thanks for all the input. I will take off the front sensors and clean them up good. I will also do the rear sensor that is in the center of the rear axle. See what that does to the lights. See, mine drives ok and stops ok also and I dont have annoying DING that is the reason I have not bothered with it, and well just dont have the time right now. Will have more time within the next couple of weeks. Will tell you all if it works just by cleaning them up.

The rear sensor in in the middle of the axel?

When mine came on the second time Sat., the speedo also went crazy....Then settled back to normal.

Well, we'll see. The dealer found the rear axel speed sensor was bad.
Not sure why this would effect the speedo the way it did.
So far so good.
