What are the best steps or points I should do when changing my fuel filter on my 2006 5.9?

1. Put drain pan under engine and open the fuel filter drain valve.

2. Clean area around filter housing top with compressed air if available.

3. Use 1 1/8 socket to remove filter top and old filter.

4. Clean filter canister with lint free cloth.

5. New o-ring on filter lid.

6. Snap new filter onto lid and install.

7. Close drain valve.

8. Crank starter momentarily (do not start) to get lift pump to run for 30 seconds. Do this twice.

9. Your truck should start right up now.

That should be it.

I use a short piece of cut off garden hose. It slips perfectly over the drain hose. Tight enough not to fall off but I can still remove and install it easily.

In addition to the great methods posted above:

Put a ziploc bag or any plastic bag that will hold fluid without leaking right beside the fuel filter housing right when you're ready to pull the fuel filter out. Right when you pull it out just drop it right over in the open bag.

Dont be scared of your first time either because when you unscrew the cap it will take a bit of a tug to unseat the filter. Depending on how long you wait before finally unseating the filter youll probably hear a good slosh as the rest of the fuel dumps out of the center section of the filter and into the bowl.

Be very careful when "wiping" the canister out. There will still be fuel in the bottom but it will be unfiltered with a lot of sediment in it. Do not get any of this down the center pipe stem because it will destroy your injectors and possibly your CP3 over time. The other thing to note is the filter actually "snaps" into the filter lid so you have to use a little finess to get it out of the lid and then the new one snaps back into it.

The Fleetguard Fuel Filter that most recommend, and what I use, is FS19856_P

You can get them here http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo....mber=FS19856_P

If you gotta ask maybe you're best off taking it to the dealer!
