How do I check transfer case fluid?

I'm seeing some atf4 leaking on the garage floor its not the tranny so I'm thinking its the transfer case. I really can't pinpoint where the leak is so I'm thinking I should check the transfer case fluid level.

I'm guessing its just pulling a plug?, if I knew where to look:-\

Thanks

Ron

Here is a link that shows a photograph of the transfer case fill and drain plug locations. It will require a 10mm Allen socket bit /wrench in order to remove the drain and fill plugs. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d-t267899.html

Caution on the plug.... It is a tapered plug. If you tighten it too much, it will seat flush with the case. If that happens, about 3 hours with a chisel will get it back out. Ask how I know......Snug is good!

I have started using Teflon tape on the threads that way I don't have to tighten it too much to get them to seal, also makes it easier for removal.

I find it a best practice to use a torque wrench and tighten items to the recommended torque specifications.

I know you're not draining it but just a bit of advise for anybody else reading this thread. ALWAYS make sure you can get the fill plug out BEFORE you drain the oil.
