How to Check Engine Hours

OK, I know this has been posted a million times. I searched & can't find it. So, how do I check engine hours on a 04.5?

On my '07: I turn the ignition on making sure the odometer is showing and then hold the trip button in for 6 seconds and by this time the hours show up. You can release it and it will stay there for I think 30 seconds or until you start it up or turn it off.
