I just bought an '07 w/o cruise, is there any way to enable the high idle feature on mine. On my '04 6.0 I had to put a switch between two wires hidden under the dash...is there anything like that?

This site is so cool. I am new to diesels and have an 06 Mega cab cummins 3500 and have been mostly just reading the forums learning. I just called my dealer where I bought it and asked about having this enabled and he said it was free. Going to have them do it when they fix my rear seat latch next week. I have not liked the amount of warm up time and it is fall here in Oregon so weather is cold.

So what is the power on after key off thing?? I don't understand what you guys are talking about yet. Can you explain better?

You can have it done on a 03. They have to upload the program into the truck and then turn it on. 04.5 and newer have it in computer already but the 03+04 they have to put the program into the computer first.

All 3rd Gens with Auto and Criuse can have high idle.

With this feature enabled your radio, power windows etc will stay working with the key off until a door is opened or it reaches the preset time setting.

What is DLR? I have the delay power on my 06 off the lot...The high idle is something I need to get, although I'm in Cali, I'm in an area that right now is in the 40's in the morning and it takes 5-10 minutes of idle and 5-6 miles of driving before I hit full warm up.

WOW. There is no way I would have paid to have high idle enabled. Free at my dealer. If you guys want to warm up fast, and I mean really fast have a Pacbrake put on. $1250 installed at the dealer.

I might be wrong but the 03s are not capable at all. They have a differant ecm setup then 04 up and the download will not work with a 03.Do a search. This was discussed many times in the past. Also read the TSB for the download.03s are not included.

If you have a 03-04, you need to ask the dealer for the TSB for "Poor Cab Heat". That will get you the program that is in the 04.5+up from the factory.

I do not think any 03(auto or 6 speed) is capable of taking the download(flash) for high idle.Differant ECM.In 04 model year changes were made in Ecm's that allowed for the high idle to be implemented.

Is it constant high idle or does it drop after warm up? I'm assuming it would drop into normal range after warm up.

It's a high idle that is controlled by the cruise control buttons. It does not drop automaticly.

Also, as someone else posted, the feature IS NOT available on ANY '03 model. Read TSB18-004-04.

http://www.portjeff.net/df5152/tsb_1800404.htm

It's '04s with automatic ONLY. The '04.5s and later have the software already. They just need the feature enabled. '04s gotta have software installed, then enabled.
