My 06 did it once, tried this morning and couldn't get the cruise hold set for 3 seconds and didn't work, the glow plug wire icon came on but the fast idle didn't work,,,,

Question: Does it have to be a certain temp for the cruise set deal for fast idle to work?????

thanks

Ok so here is a question. My truck does not have cruise control, but everynow and then when it's pretty cold it will enable it's self. Just the other day I drove it about 30 miles, got out of the truck left it in neutral(auto tranny) and set the park brake, it kicked on it's self about 3 minutes later. I thought it was a little weird becuase the engine was more then warm. Mabe it has something to do w/ the ambient temps outside?

Now for my question, I don't think I have any control over my high idel feature at all, but I do have the Bully Dog Triple program, that also controls the PTO right? So can I adjust my idle through the box or have I just lost my mind?

The high idle controlled thru the cruise buttons is standard on all ECU's from 04 up, auto and manual. It just needs to be enabled by the dealer. It will work in neutral or park, parking brake on or off, as long as the foot brake, or clutch on the manulas with the clutch switch, is not touched. The manuals need to add a ground wire to the PTO signal wire and clutch switch if desired. No cruise buttons no controllable high idle. Whether the DL's will allow you to control it on the PTO is a question.

The automatic high idle has been around since the 03's and is triggered by idle time at low ambient temps. Whether it is a combination of ambient temp and intake air temp is another question. The automatic high idle wil idle up to 1000 rpms, the one operated thru the cruise buttons starts at 1100 rpms and will allow adjustments if 100 rpm's up to 1500 rpm's. Both will cancel when the foot brake is engaged enough to trip the micro switch.

My 05 auto would also do it on its own last winter but this year so far it has not done it yet.
Is it possible that it can disable itsself? The strange thing is some times it sounds like its starting to rev up but never does. Any ideas?

taske42, it will work at any temp. start truck parking brake on or off don't matter. turn cruise control on, hold cruise set button for 2secs - truck should idle up to 1100rpms - use resume button to increase rpms up to 1500rpm - use decel to lower rpm to 1100 rpm. make sure you do not have your foot on the brake pedal or it will not engage.

The manual idle up last time I heard was for autos only. Didn't the dealers say no Manuals since they can;t control the gearshifting then? You start the truck in park, no ebrake needed, foot off service brake. Turn cruise on and hit set. It will raise to 1100RPM. Then you can adjust it up to like 1500 or 1600RPMs with the Accel button the cruise, and bring it back down to 100RPM with the decel button.

There is an automatic idle up on thse, when the temps are cool and the engine is running too cool it will jump to 100RPM on it's own for a bit then when the temp is right it drops again. Hit the brake it drops. It also isn;t supposed to usually do that until after it's started for like 2 minutes I think.

But that's the basic jist of the operation of that.

once the cruise light is on, hold the SET button(as if you are going to set your speed that you want to travel at), it then should come on if it was enabled properly by the dealer.

taske42, what yr is your truck? I think 04.5 and earlier up to 03 there needs to be a flash upgrade done first, then enabled. If everything is done right and still don't work try getting it disabled then re-enabled, and if that does not work I'm not sure what next unless there is something deactivating it as soon as you put it on just a guess though.

Maybe it has to do with outside temps?

Tell the dealer to get it working. They are the experts.
