I have a 2006 3500 with a 5.9 and my coolant temps have been running right at 200 degrees and with my gooseneck up to 210. I just had the motor rebuilt and replaced a 6 injectors,turbo and had the radiator cleaned. When I first bought my truck the temps would run at 190 and a little higher with a load, why after all the work i've had done the temp doesn't go down is there anything else I can do?

 

I think your temps are fine. Your temps run about like mine, towing or not.

Some trucks just run a little hotter than others. Maybe change out the T-Stat to a cooler one? OR don't worry about it unless it climbs above 210.

The temps are the same as mine.I wouldn't be concerned with the before and after differences.

 

Your thermostat is a 190 degree so I don't think you have anything to worry about

 

Sounds normal to me too.

With the camper in the truck (3200lb sail), in 110F weather pulling 6-7% grades, will get 210-220. On the downhill side, it drops back to ~190-200.

I don't pull or tow and I run 195 - 200 runnin around town little hotter in the summer sittin traffic.

 

I recently put a new thermostat in mine. With the old thermostat, my truck was taking longer to warm up even with the winter front on. Kind of like the it had stuck open. The old one cycled between 190 and 200 or so based on the factory gauge. The new one runs 10-20 degrees hotter. Now the truck cycles between 200-210. Both have 190 stamped on them. I worried about if for a while. After several weeks of consistent temps including while pulling my trailer, I am less worried. I wondered if it had to do with the bars on the thermostat that the coolant has to run past and their orientation to the temp sensor right next to it.

Was a new thermostat installed with the motor rebuild?

 

Yes, I replaced the thermostat with one directly from cummins.

 

I went through the same thing... it is normal.
