Hestitation and white smoke

Hey y’all. I was driving my 07 5.9 today and going up a small incline. I felt a sudden dip in power and then noticed white smoke coming out of my exhaust. I THINK I could hear like a whistle when I stepped on the gas a couple time. I pulled over and got out of the truck with it running and there was a puff puff of white smoke coming from the exhaust. I turned off the truck and looked in the engine bay and underneath…. nothing noteworthy. I started the truck and started driving. Accelerated hard a few times and saw the usual light black smoke I normally see under acceleration. I drove a couple hours home and didn’t notice anything unusual. Any ideas on what might have happened?

Maybe air getting in the fuel system, or a strain on the fuel delivery system.
The fact that it "reset" itself after turning the truck of is interesting. It maybe a restriction in the fuel system. Think gunk at the bottom of the tank clogging the pick up filter. Once the suction on the filter stopped the gunk fell to the bottom of the tank...Maybe?

I would check the fuel filter and the fuel line connections from the pump to the tank.
Also check that the lift pump is working well and making enough fuel pressure for the injection pump.

Glad it cleared up! Might’ve been minor just keep monitoring things.

Thanks for the replies…. No sure what it was but I’m keeping an eye on it. Someone recommended running a quart of ATF through the fuel system. IS this a good idea of will it damage the system??

What would the benefit be of running ATF?

I have heard of adding some two stroke oil to the fuel, to help with the "new" low sulfur diesel.

You might look at your post turbo to Intake air tube for split, holes, etc.
