Help w/check engine light
Help w/check engine light
I just got my '04 CTD 1 week ago. This morning, I took out the turbo baffle ring to see if it sounded any meaner. Now the check engine warning light comes on everytime its started. It runs fine, the turbo sounds a little better, but I can't figure out this check engine light. Any help? Did I screw something up?
thanks,
daniel

Do a trouble check and see what error codes you have. To do this turn the key to on position 3 times. Dont start, just turn from off to on three times. Read the odometer display. The codes will display one at a time until you see "done".
Did the "Check Engine" go away or does it still stay on?
Did you remove the sensor that is plugged in to the air intake and forget to put it back?

Sorry, I should have posted what the code was. Its telling me P0073:ambient temp too high.
I did take the sensor plug off the intake box and didn't realize that I forgot to plug it back in until after I started the truck!
...dumb. I guess I was too anxious to hear the new turbo sound.
So, its plugged back in now, but I'm still getting the check engine light, which stays on, but it seems to be running fine. Can I just reset the codes somehow?

If that is the only code showing, it should not be a problem. I did the same thing when I installed my air intake. That code can be reset with most any OBDII scan tool. Autozone will normally do it for free.
The engine check light will probably go out on its own after you have driven enough or started and stop enough times. The computer will eventually run tests against the sensor and reset itself. I dont have a clue how many starts/stops or how long it takes. Seems to vary greatly depending on which code/test.
