Help Strange Noise!
Help Strange Noise!
Ok. Here's the deal. I have an SBC Con OFE clutch. Ever since I put it in it chatters a little. Normal I've been told. It chatters in neutral and if I'm running in a higher gear at low speed. But lately I've been noticing a sort of higher pitched grinding sort of buzzing noise when slowing down in gear and first accelarating. It's really noticeable when I'm on a road with trees or something close by for the sound to echo off of. Is this normal?
Also, sometimes when I drop my truck into neutral or shift the rpms have been staying up around 1000 instead of around 800 which is normal. It's done this since I uploaded the new REVO tune on my smarty. Did not do this with the 4.10 tune.
Any help at all is appreciated. Thank you guys very much.

13" set up when I had my 2000 Dodge 3500 NV5600. The first clutch installed produced a loud knocking noise from the bellhousing. It would go away when the clutch pedal was depressed. I was told it was the imput shaft bearing. BS. The clutch was engaging at the bottom of the pedal which was not normal. This has happened to others on the form. Seach "southbend clutch"
I called the seller of the equipment and was sent another complete setup.
The loud knocking was gone after installation. The shop that said it was the imput shaft bearing bore the expense of a 5600 teardown to find nothing. I paid for new bearings and brass. (185,000 miles) Good Tranny. I have pics of the parts on the table. Engagement was back to normal. (Bad Pressure Plate the first time)
What followed was the same noise your describing at slow speed or 3rd gear
at slow speed. It was always there before the clutch change out. It was not as pronouced as it was after the SBC was installed. Its like 10 times as loud as before.
I think the buzz and noise your hearing is caused by the throw out arm vibrating at low speed. I was not there when the system was changed out.
There may be a spring on the arm that keeps it in tension when the clutch pedal is not depressed. (Only a guess) You might want to look at a breakdown of parts to see if anything like that is supposed to be in there. There could be a vibration damper (rubber) as well. I've never looked at a parts breakdown. Sold the truck two weeks ago. I now drive a mush box.
No idea about the RPM thing.

my thoughts on the RPM... seems like with the added tune you should have higher rail pressure, the fuel cant flow back so it takes a little while for the RPM's to drop back to normal. how long does it take for the RPM's to return to the 800 ish mark?
