Help-squeal!!!!
before i ask:
just got the service done at dodge....told them 15w-40 not sure whether they listened, now sometimes when i crank er up sounds like a little birdy under the hood, but goes away after a little bit. HOPING to rule out the turbo but wouldnt be surprised if it is. If theres a Cummins mechanic out there, are these turbos rebuildable? Which **** turbo is in the truck? And (if im really lucky) is there a user in the Tampa Bay area with a spare?
P.S. I will be checking the turbo for play and adding lucasoil additive in hopes to temporarily solve the squeak tomorrow IF i can get outta bed...night shifts suck! Also I AM a mechanic myself, i'm just looking for insight as to if I'm missing something simple or if its something i havent learned.

I doubt the type of oil they used has anything to do with the "birdy under the hood" you describe.
Yes, the squeal could be the turbo, but you may have a bad tensioner pulley going bad too. Or your serpentine belt could be the cause also. To check the turbo, remove the air hose to the compressor side of the turbo and check the "free play" of the turbo shaft by moving it up and down and side to side. A small amount of "up and down" freeplay is alright. Also check to see if the shaft has been rubbing on the housing. That would indicate the shaft is badly worn.
Your turbo is a "Holset HY-35/9" if it is the stock unit. Yes, they can be rebuilt. I would suggest "Scheid Diesel" to you in Terre Haute, Ind. They are a full service Cummins, Holset Dealer and are very reasonable on rebuilds.
Here is their toll free number if you want to use them:

I am moving your thread to the 3rd Gen Section for more exposure.
