help with rusty tail pipe
I am trying to post a picture of it. lets see if it works. I haven't done this in a while. Anyway the tail pipe on my 04.5 quadcab long bed has rusted completely away from the muffler. Should I just get a tailpipe and if so from where? Or do I need a muffler too and what do I need to make it all go together?http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...pse2c86cd8.jpg

I just changed the muffler and tail pipe, the front pipe and cat is stainless the back isnt. I used a donaldson muffler and stock tail pipe as they are 4" works fine.

Thanks for the reply. The stock muffler has a offset between in and out. How did you deal with that? I believe the aftermarket mufflers are straight. I would like a tail pipe that is more rust resistant. Is there another recommended brand? Did you reuse the stock clamps? Can a band style clamp be used after the u bolt style has been used and deformed the pipe?

I just put on a magna flow stainless from the turbo back, no cat on my truck, was under $600 taxes in out the door, and another $100 for them to put it on,, I took the parts home, had in on in half the time it took to get the old one off.
I also priced out the pipe I needed to go from the resonator to an aluminized muffler, similar to the donaldson 51, and the tail pipe over the axle and that was just under $300
My tail pipe rotted off right at the top where it goes over the axle and I didn't realize it until it melted the spray in bed liner in the box.

I dont see much salt as I spend the summers up North and the winters in Arizona, so the stock pipe was fine for mine, the 51 inch donaldson is a bit of a beotch to fit, kind of tight, length wise. it does not have an offset but worked okay, maybe the 41 inch donalson would work better for you, I wanted quiet as I tow a 36ft 5th wheel and I have no drone at all, and it sounds pretty good to me, cheers
