If you have a friend coming over use the hat wrench on the pottom while someone up top uses the band wrench located all the why at the top of the filter.
If that does not work then just go buy another truck with a looser oil filter

I agree the problem when new is paint on the engine when they install the filter , it is not because they over tighten the thing at the factory . I use a strap wrench with a wide strap from the bottom with and extension to get mine off and it took all I had . Put the strap as high up as you can and it will cave in the filter a little to help release the grip . I have felt your pain many times , good luck with it .

I WON !!! Finally got the edited by admin thing off. I will take pictures of what I did. I used (2) 2x4s that I screwed together and used it as a wedge against the ratchet and the frame of the truck. This kept it straight and kept it from slipping off by giving me alittle leverage. The original web strap is garbage IMO. The hat is the way to go...

Cheers everyone.... I am going to celebrate with friends and booze !!!

The problem with that is, you can't get a pair of channel locks up in there!

When I bought my truck, I got them to throw in six oil changes.............free..............well after spending $40K.

The best filter wrench you can buy is one that is the kind that is made from seat belt material. They can be bought to fit a 1/2" drive ratchet, and fit filters of all sizes. The more force you put on the strap, the tighter it gets. Never had a problem using that type of filter strap. You can go to the following website to see a picture: http://www.doityourself.com/invt/6180103

I don't think I've seen my wrench described yet. I got it at car quest. Its a spring loaded, cam type wrench which fits on bottom like a cap filter & has a
1/2" square hole you can put your 16" 1/2" extension in. It grips filter like
& it WILL take it off quite easily. It only takes off doesn't work in reverse; I use plastic cap wrench to tighten by hand.

When I had my first oil change I took it in and let someone elses do it and when I paid I asked if it was hard to get off. The answer I got from the person who changed it was that he had to use Channel Locks to get it off, so there must be away to use them at least on a 2006 or he lied to me!

Wow, this brings back memories from edit on my first oil change. Screw driver, a hammer and some cuss words that my wife had never heard before. Oh, I feel your pain. But i got it to spin off after about 2 hours of trying to find a good wrench. That didnt work and did the screw driver thing.
